Question About Amphibious landings?

When does the amphibious landing from a Transport take place?


a) Unload during Surface Gunnery phase

b) Unload after Surface Gunnery

c) At the end of a turn

d) none of the above

My gut tells me to follow the SA  Vital Cargo a little bit.

But I don't know really

A: Correct,immeadetly after rolling a success for seizing an island(one 6 is enough)
B: wrong
C: wrong
D: wrong

Vital cargo (its on JOB and Kinai Maru I assume) can not be used if you follow the current rules  we let it out because the advantage can be too steep if you use that SA in high numbers, its a kind of doubling the build in points.
if used in a abuse style you gain a extra 3  or 4 income every turn.

imagine following initial setup fleet:

1x belfast and 12x JOB

You go ahead with 6 JOBs and the cruiser to seize islands, the 6 remaining are used to boost the stock of the starting island every turn until they are all gone make a netto gain of 18 points, together with a full upgraded start island you can buy the first full size  battleship at round 3 (in this example you will have a total of 45 points)

with not full upgraded islands the advantage would be much steeper...

secret cargo can oly be used once per game too and the submarine that comes with that SA is not the best one and need at least a sub bunker upgrade.

the SA of Landing ships apply in late game due to their 1944 date and at that time the most games are almost over for the looser and those units would give him not a real way out.

Mayor rules update in red

short version:

*1943 surface stacking limit increase abandoned
*results of removed upgrades that affects units changed

rules update about destroyers:


Destroyers can lay a smoke screen instead of any attacks.
The smoke screen grants concealment rolls only for the destroyer
itself in the same turn, in the following turn the smoke screen grants concealment rolls for all units in its square.

So, have you ever tried the game with addining more Islands, making the map even bigger, or having 4 players (ie four starting nations?)

4 and 3 player games are often played.

I a 4 player game the axis players should be placed on the same side of the map same with the allied players on the other side.If you have enough space i suggest a quadrouple standard map, the double standard map would do the job but sometimes
its to crowded.
suggestions of nation mix for 4 players:
one player USN
one player UK/commonwealth/France
one player Germany/Italy
one player IJN


here a simple layout example map



in a 3 player setup the general setup should be in triangular shape and all players starting locations must be placed
in the same distance to each other.

best setup is germany , italy and Uk/commonwealth against each other.
Against each other in a 3 player game often causes a two vs one so we found a solution that everybody can only attack the player on his left /right side.(A vs B  B vs C and C vs A )


simple 3 player layou map example
islands with the red dots may be placed


in general the players should use different nations because
it can cause confusions which ones unit are where on the map.


More Islands can be placed but the map would be too overloaded and with more islands the games lasts longer

Bigger maps is not the problem but the game would cost more time, an average Grandest fleet match on a double standard size map between two experienced players(who know the scenario´s special rules very good) and with no concede would take almost 3-4 hours. better expect a 6 to 8 hour game if
you play with newbies.

random placing is also an option but the you need some kind
of symmetric placement in total,the game can be to one sided in case of asymmetric placement

Some questions if you don't mind:

How does loiter work? - it doesn't allow me to avoid the re-arming counter when I first build the aircraft, does it?

How does surprise work? I'm assuming it needs to be used the first turn the fighter is available?

How does night fighter work?  If I build a cruiser with night fighter after the 4th turn does it get the bonus?  Or does it have to wait for 4 turns after it has been built?

Loiter prevents only getting rearming markers after a normal flight action

Surprise and other similar SA trigger at the first available turn of the unit itself(for e.g. a zeke that is first available in june 1941 get its surprise despite of the game already run about 6 rounds)

my gaming group determined that night fighter units get their bonus in every turn when the owner wins the initiative.
You can also use the SA after waiting 4 turns, in most cases you spend almost 4 turns to close the range from the  home yard to comabat zone.

for example:

I build an airstrip and a fighter on the same turn...
