Post subject: 1942.11.15 - Night Battle of Guadalcanal
|
|
|
Here we go again...
"The Japanese were very determined to land the remainder of the 38th Division onto the Island of Guadalcanal, so after a furious night battle on the 13th, between American Cruisers and the Japanese Bombardament Force, which resulted in the loss of the IJN Hiei, the IJN Kirishima returned to the scene. Early on the 14th, heavy cruisers of the IJN poured over 1,300 8-inch shells into the Guadalcanal beachhead, while more troops landed. The Japanese planned to repeat the bombardament on the 15th, but this time, the Americans detached their battleships from the carrier task force to engage." (1)
This is a Night Battle
Map: use battle map #6, allies have initiative the first turn.
Game Length: 1D6+5 turns.
Axis Forces:
Bombardament Force: Normal Deployment
1xKongo (IJN Kirishima)
2xMyoko (represents Atago and Takao)
2xYukikaze
Screening Force: set up in owning players sub deployment zone.
1xJintsu
4xYukikaze
Advance Picket Force: set up in opposing players sub deployment zone.
1xJintsu
4xYukikaze
Allied Forces: normal deployment
2xWashington (USS Washington and USS South Dakota)
4xFletcher
Special Rules:
No ships may exit the map.
The South Dakota suffered an electrical failure during this engagement. To represent this, South Dakota may not fire her main gunnery for the first two turns. On the third turn roll one die, on the result of 1-3, the ship may not fire main gunnery. The ship may fire normally on all subsequent turns.
Victory Conditions:
There are no objectives, the player with the most victory points at the end of play wins.
This is just a simple, Big Gun, free for all. Make changes if you like and again just have fun. The Allies will have their work cut out for them. Smart players will use the South Dakota as a Cruiser for the first 2-3 turns and concentrate secondary gunnery on the DD's and CL's of the IJN. Once the electrical short on the Dakota has passed..."its on". The Japanese player will have to work quickly to dispatch the American BB's.

I like it, but I think the IJN should always win, the advance picket force's Long Lances will be deadly. _________________
