Must say indirect fire is rather effective and alittle overpowering.  In every game I have played so far indirect fire has been more effective than direct fire.  Just my two cents.

I will go first if I win.

I know I said I would go first but I changed my mind if that is alright if not so be it. You can re-roll if you want.

You start.

The effectivity of mortars is relative. My MG for 8 pts killed more units than the mortar for 10 pts. But surprisingly nobody mentions MG as overpowered.

Statistically, firing indirectly with 81mm mortar is a waste of ammo unless you are firing in a large group (which you formed at the beginning). You have less than 50% chance of hitting the target and 50% of chance to destroy the standard infantry on the hex (half if it has cover).

12,5% an average luck for killing an infantry in cover for 3 or 4 pts? 25% if they are on the open field? For 10 points, it's a sort of expensive fireworks. Your luck vs mine luck is a different question.

As you see from the map, the overall army proportions were conserved, so this game is still balanced - with all extremely good and bad rolls leveled in longterm view. I think you are close to the victory now.

I'm not just talking about this game.  MG are firing with line of sight , so units are positioned to be fired uponed or left exposed.  Mortars are firing blind with roughly a 50% chance of hitting, rather high for indirect fire.  Most of, if not all of mortars shells hit the target hex, dispersion maybe caused two hits if that.
