WW1 Rules, any Recommendations?Hi all
My next dive into table top wargaming is probably WW1 skirmish type games.
The only two rulebooks i have heard about are "Warhammer The Great War" + "Contemptable Little Armies"
Anyone tried these or recommend one over the other.
What i am looking for are simple and fastplay with little or no paperwork lol
Much Appreciated

How about Axis and Allies miniatures without the tanks and aircraft ? Nehh, just kidding. It would take too much time to modify the game to suit the special WW1 feel, equipment and psychology. But I'm looking for something like that too.
To The Last Man looks interesting :

Also the 'Price of Glory' (miniature game) has some good reviews :

I have played/own them both. I'd have to go with "Warhammer the Great War" though at times it really, really smacks of 40k a few editions back. In my opinion WWI doesn't lend itself to tabletop games all that well...trenches, machine guns et al. Which is a shame really as its its such an interesting period of military innovation/history.

The great war is good, but all the GW historicals are in limbo right now.
This set is extremely popular in the UK:

Vae Victis, the french wargame/ miniature/ history mag that i'm trying to infiltrate as an AAM guy has an interesting game this month about WWI.

The fun is they printed the counters but you can also use your good old Atlantic soldiers instead.
Worth checking out but it's mainly in french.

Thanks guys all the feedback and links are very much appreciated.
I remember years ago doing WW1 in 6mm, didn't make for a enjoyable game or feel, wrong scale it's just mass slaughter, ended up selling them on eBay.
But over the past year I have been seeing more and more articles using Renegade 28mm Figures at squad level. They peeked my interest, especially since i have also started a WW1 1:3000 scale WW1 Naval force as W&S became so addictive lol.
Looks like tonight after work, some nice browsing for me there from those links provided.

I believe i might try out the cut out WW1 game from this month's Vae Victis magazine.
I'll have to find some Atlantic WW1 soldiers first!

I went to my "local" store today to try to find some WWI french and german infantry minis. The owner told me he had sold out! The topic is "hot" at the moment.
He only had one airfix british WW1 box left.

I know the feeling, my local store had loads of renegade 28mm french and early british figures in, not selling so he dropped them to £4 a packet...i decided a week later to do ww1, guess what, they all sold out after not selling a packet for over a year lol
I have noticed a lot of the magazines are doing lots of articles on ww1 skernish scenarios. Last Wargames Illustrated was full of them.
