Wings of War resources

So, there have been several posts here concerning WoW.  Just thought I would put together a quick promo/resource for those not familiar with the game and interested in finding out more.

It is a very fast paced game that can be played in as little as 20 minutes to over an hour depending on number of players and planes involved.  Basic idea is you take control of a WWI or WWII (two seperate games with simialr mechanics) and dogfight.  No map or game surface required.  Manuevering is done with a deck of cards that you pick the manuever(s) you want.  It is easy enough that my 9 yrs old daughter loves it and yet you can add some complexities with advanced rules.  The game is playable right out of the box or you can add minis (we all like minis). Wink

WoW just had a release of minis for the WWII line and has a few more coming.  Both the WWI and WWII have a strong following.

Currently Available:

WWI Boxed Sets:
1. Famous Aces- Basic fighters

2. Watch your back-more fighters and two seaters

3. Burning Drachens-more planes, ballons, and altitude rules

3 sets of minis that cooresdond with the 3 boxed sets.

WWII
1.Dawn of war-Introductory set includes Spitfires, ME109s, Wildcat, Zero

2. Fire from the sky-Not yet released

Set 1 Minis-Just released

I just discovered that Miniature Market and Game outfitters also carries it at better than retail prices.  Ebay is also a good outlet.

If you are into the minis, you can buy/paint your own at about a third of the cost.  I am going to give it a try.

Is this game based off the 'Ace of Aces' series or an all new game.

It's available on PSN in the US at least, though not in Europe.

There's also a deluxe set of the basic WWI game complete with miniature planes which is recommended. You get four or so planes for a fraction of the cost Smile
acs0424

Yes there is a wings of war video game for xbox original.

Yes there is, but very hard t find in the U.S.  FYI, I have bought most of my minis online or at a discount.

WWI Fighters - under $9 is a good price (retail  $12)
WWI Bomber-$10 is a good price (retail  $15)
WWII Set -$9-10 is a good price (retail $13)

It was only made for europe =(

So you will have to pay for shipping costs tog et to the US. There are a few Canadian sites that sell it.

The WWII deluxe box set will be available in the US with new camo schemes for the planes (Wild Cat, SPit fire, Zero, 109)

I will be willing to trade my xbox copy for some stuff , if anyone is interested.

Those planes sure are cheaper in the states... I wonder if the deluxe set still isn't cheaper, with shipping from Europe, than the game and four planes.

And seriously, what's this BS with region restrictions?

Just for comarison if you shopped online you could get 4 planes and the game

WWI- about $55

WWII -Under $60

If you found the best deals.

Fire from the sky hit stores around here today.

Stuka, Val, Dauntless, P-39, P-40, Yak1 and more.  Also picked up some more minis to paint, Val, Me109, P-40, P-39. Cool

This is what it looks like and what's in the box. I got mine for 450SEK which is 59USD. So prices in Sweden are poor by comparison. But one plane is 125-159SEK, rougly 16-22USD so in Sweden it's a good deal Wink

Some nice looking models.  The key is finding the models that have cards in WoW.  Have not found a Duntless yet 1/200.

AIR200 is suppose to have some more stuff coming out.

A picture and quote from today's game.

What do you thinks about something like this for a altitude gauge for WoW?

I don't like the pegs for keeping tract of Alt. dice become a bit cumbersome, especially when they start rolling over or knocking into them.

NOTE: this little "sketch" was done in a few minutes, nor have I ever gone to engineering school for this kind of thing.

Not too familiar with Altitude rules, but it's a nice concept if their is a maximum altitude they can achieve in the game.  The only other reason I can think of the pegs is for a better visual effect.

It is nice til you have to put 9 or 10 pegs on them.

Then they lean over and crash  Crying or Very sad

I have used alt. rules 3 or 4 times with WoW1 I just use 2 or 3 pegs and that is it. Then a D-20 for altitude.

Unless you play with a year cap limit then there are 2 or 3 fighters in WoW1 that pretty much rule the skies completely with little competition, primarily the Fokker VII and the Snipe.

Dr.I is pretty good too.

Those Nieuports are god aweful... I learned that the hard way.  Evil or Very Mad

Where on Miniature Market you find these? I was looking but with no success.
Thanks

The ones in the boxeas are the official WoW models and are plastic.  The ones in bags are another compnay AIR200 that are metal and you need to paint, but work great with the game for more models at a fraction of the cost.

I buy the AIR200 models at a LGS called The Last Square they are online as well.

I could not find them on the menu at minature market, but if you do a search "wings of War" they have a few pages of stuff at a good price.

It looks doable.  You might want to look at what they use for the game "check your six" which I believe has a dial for altitude.  Could easily be added to the WoW stand without altering it.

I understand, thanks.

Not only have I looked into the game, I own it with several of the books.

They altitude/speed dials are part of the base and don't go up very high in altitude. I believe 6?

And they are way too big to place on the WoW stands.

And the draw back to their stands is that the little hand that pivots on the base moves quite a bit (on some of them) so you loose where your speed and alt. is at.

Anyone considering using there own modles should consider getting flight stands from Litko.  I ordered some awhile ago and they arrived while we were on vacation.  Finally had a chance to install and use them today.  Very happy with thye results.  So much so that I ordered 10 more bases and some more pegs.

JJ, you mentioned using dice to track elevation.  I see they have a product called dice holders, so I ordered a pack to give them a try.  From what I can tell they basically secure a standard 12mm die to the base of the flight stand.

Here are several of my planes both WoW models and the AIR200 models I painted on the Litko stands:

I've played the WWII version.  I like it.  For a beer and pretzels air to air combat game it's not too bad.

A friend of mine has this game and we play it and WAS when we get together to game.
Matter of fact, this past Saturday, we played several games of Wow and a 250pt North Sea convoy scenario.  Brit vs Jerry
