Wargaming Magazine

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on a good paper wargaming magazine.  I know Wargaming Illustrated is now owned by Battlefront (but I've still heard good reviews about it and the promo is tempting), but I want some independent opinions before I invest in a subscription.

I can't give an opinion on Wargames Illustrated. However Strategy and Tactics is excellent. It usually comes with a complete game in every issue.

WI is still an excellent magazine, highly recommended. For the rest I'd direct you here:

It's an excellent resource site, just don't talk to them. Particularly on the Napoleonic boards...

I buy Miniature Wargames every month since issue 76. i always find it good and nicely rounded with all eras including Scifi/fantasy.

I'd recommend buying a single issue of the ones you are interested on the newstand until you find one you really like and then get a subscription. I bought one Wargaming Illustrated at my FLGS, it wasn't for me. What I found about WI was that they had good articles about a specific battle and then would describe a scenario that you could play. The issue I got was about Cesear fighting the Gauls, and FOW mid-war monsters. It was pretty much all about miniatures, how to paint them and reviews of the different manufactures of minis. I'm not into building armies of 6mm or 25mm soldiers. So this magazine wasn't up my alley, but if you are into that, then you'd probably like it.

This was the first time I bought a war game magazine, just this month. I was hoping for reviews of different games from different publishers. I plan on checking more magazines out at my FLGS.
