UK Fleet list 200/300 Points

I’ve just started playing again after laying off for about a year and normally play Japanese but currently have been playing with a UK build. My current opponent uses a straight Italian build including a Littorio and Giulio Cesare, JU-87 R2 x3, Folgore x3, MTB, Bolzano, Duca d’Acosta and Luca Tarigo x5. I countered with this 200 point build:

HMS Rodney - 58
HMS Warspite - 46

HMS Jamaica - 15
HMS Javelin  - 9
Hr Ms Van Galen - 8

HMS Fencer - 14
-Sea Hurricane - 5

HMS Truculent  - 12

Swordfish MK II  - 10
Barracuda MK II - 12
Sea Hurricane x2 - 10

Total of 199 Pts

The battle went like this:

The Italians advanced across a broad front with their battleships in the middle. I advanced both battleships toward the center objective, Jamaica and her escorts dashed off toward the right objective which left the Truculent to defend the left Objective. The Fencer provided air cover from the rear but moved to support the Truculent. The air phase was uneventful but after the Italians smoked up their battle line Warspite still took her Lucky Shot and damaged the Cesare. I think my opponent relied too heavily on the protection from his smoke screen. I soon was targeting his destroyers and had eliminated all of them by the 4th turn. Both of us traded ships with me losing the Fencer and Van Galen and him losing the Bolzano and the Littorio taking damage. At this point my better initiative allowed me to maneuver my battleships for extended range shots without retaliation well I slipped the Truculent in an Torpedo the Cesare.

At this point we called the game as a UK victory. We played 2 more games using the same fleet builds with pretty much the same results so I think my basic fleet is sound. The thing is our next set of games is going to 300 pts. And I know he just got some reinforcements (i.e.: Sparviero x3, Eugenio di Savoia and 2 Ugolino Vivaldi.).

My 300 point fleet looks like this:

HMS Rodney - 58
HMS Warspite - 46

HMS Jamaica - 15
HMS Javelin  - 9
Hr Ms Van Galen x3 - 24

HMS Fencer - 14
-Sea Hurricane - 5

HMS Illustrious - 20
-Sea Hurricane - 5
-Barracuda MK II - 12

HMS Truculent x3 - 36

Swordfish MK II  x2 - 20
Barracuda MK II - 12
Sea Hurricane x3 - 15
Beaufighter - 9

I don’t have a KGV but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I like that at 300 points you've added enough air to make a real difference.  Sparvieros are always tough, though, especially when you play the British.  An alternative would be to can the Illustrious for another Fencer, taking only fighters in the air, and use the points saved to add a bunch more Truculents.  At three hundred points you might see 4 battleships, which might be difficult even for Rodney.

I like any fleet that has Rodney and Warspite.  Two of my favorite ships.  By the way, welcome to the forum!

Sparvs are deadly - Especially against Warspite.  if you can - think about trading out Warspit for KGV.  you can come up with the points by losing a sea hurricane, or trading a Sword for an extra hurricane + the 5 you need fro KGV

While the KGV is undoubtedly tougher than Warspite, I like Long Shot 6 an awful lot more than Jammed Mount.

I like Torpedo Defense against Sparvs

Well, had my 300-point game and it went as expected. The Warspite didn’t survive the first Wave of Sparviero‘s.  She actually managed to knock one out with here AA but the Sea Hurricane’s flying cap couldn’t touch the two remaining escorted Sparv’s (Can’t wait to pick up some Martlet‘s). Illustrious and Fencer fell next and I hadn’t even hurt the Italian fleet yet. I started making up the difference in the fourth turn by sinking 4 of his Luca Tarigo’s, Bolzano, crippling both Duca d’Acosta’s and sinking an Ambra well only losing the Jamaica and 2 Van Galen’s.

Rodney managed to claim the left and middle objective markers but it was only a matter of time. She traded shots with the Cesare and Littorio sinking the Cesare and my air power damaged the Littorio but the Sparv’s and Ju-87’s finally punched thru my weak air cover and finished her off.

Final score was 427 to 373

So……My new 300 point list

HMS Rodney x2 - 116
HMS Javelin x7- 63
Hr Ms Van Galen - 8
HMS Truculent x3 - 36

Martlet’s x4 - 24
Swordfish x2 - 20
Barracuda’s x2 - 24
Beaufighter x1 - 9

Alternately I could drop the Van Galen, a Javelin and swap F6F’s for the Martlet’s

It's kind of a shame not to include the Jamaica since you have all of those destroyers. Also, I would use the HMAS Arunta for Close Escort since it is a point cheaper, and it is a commonwealth ship.

You could downgrade the second Rodney to a KGV and drop the Van Galen to include the Jamaica.

I feel your pain, brother.  Sparvs may be among the deadliest units out there.  Great when you're playing them.  But tough to play against...

the problem with the Close Support SA is that it gives more targets for the Sparvo's torpedo swarm SA. I guess I could drop a Javelin and Van Galen to put Jamaica back in.

That would give you two points to spare, so you could also upgrade one of the Swordfish to another Barracuda.
