Transport/Stacking ProblemsOkay, this is a question I got after lurking on the Gleemax forums:
The new stacking rules allow my truck to pick up 'Large' artillery pieces -- previously a vehicle couldn't legally end it's movement in the same hex as another vehicle-equivalent, and thus couldn't pick up a Largie.
But check this out:
| Quote: | | Transporting Units: A unit boarded on a transport Vehicle doesn't count against the stacking limit. When 'backing out' units from an overstacked hex, if the last unit entered the hex by dismounting from transport, then it must re-board that transport if possible. Otherwise, the overstacked unit backs out along the path that the transport entered from until it reaches a hex it can legally occupy. |
Say I've got Pak40 loaded on an Opel Blitz during deployment. During movement, I drive it forward and unload the Pak40. Now the hex is overstacked. I can't move the truck out of the hex, because unloading something ends the transport's movement. So I have to move the Pak40 back into the frickin' truck???? Or does unloading the Pak40 end it's movement too, so it's "not possible" to "re-board" the transport? In that case, I have to back it out along the path that the transport took. I can handle that last implication, if true.
So am I understanding this right, or what?

The whole thing is a mess. You have to load the artillery back on the truck according to the letter of the rule. I suggest you work out something with your friends. The "Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight" (WoTC) has struck again. Great playtesting!

So I don't use up the unit's movement when unloading? If I did, it wouldn't be possible to load it back up. For some reason I thought that when a unit was unloaded, it couldn't move again for the rest of that phase.

You do use up the unit's movement unloading, but resolving overstacking is not movement. It's placement because of a special rules situation or undoing a move. In a normal situation, the unit could not move.

Awww, sh!t. I guess the best thing to do would be load up the truck with two other units so the gun doesn't have to get re-loaded? Sigh...

Who knows what happens then.

Then the gun backs out the way the truck came in, I guess! Aye-carumba.
