Theatre Clubs Class Limits

Hi guys,

Ok so now for the next round of discussions, it seems to me all the Theatre Clubs have too many restrictions would I be right about that?

I dont see the need to limit them to Class Limits as well, we have never done this before, aall clubs were always free as per Class Limits, they already have Year Limits and their particular limitations on Theatre unit Limits in place. I feel that Class Limits are not necessary.

agreed.  I totally agree that our theaters should be limited to the ships that operated within them (to some extent.....CFS had a variety of other nations units operating within our boundaries that we won't be including in our available units eg.- dunkurque, richileiu, washington etc) because even though they operated there, we want to preserve the original flavor that we intended for the club.  As to a class-limit restriction on theater clubs or all clubs in general, this will be far to limiting and will create some issues at game level.  Class-Limits has always been a restriction decided by the players in the match before the game starts and should not be a requirement for clubs to follow.  The theater clubs are doing there part to restrict our clubs units to fit those that operated in theater and that should be all the restriction that is really necessary.

I'd say leave class limits up to the individual match or specific event.  People tend to have varying tastes regarding them, why put 'em in a box? Smile

Agreed.

If anything, I would have liked the ability to use a ship if it had a sister in the theater AND it was not available there itself.  If that had been the case, I would have also supported limits on the number of sisters based on the historical number that operated in the theater.

An example:  Repulse didn't operate in the Med, but Renown did.  Allow Repulse in Club Med builds, but limit it to one ship in a fleet build to represent Renown.  If Renown is released in a future set, then the ability to use Repulse goes away, and the Renown card becomes available with a theater class limit of one.

Anyway, I know that's not the way we're going here.  Its all good.  Just my thoughts on the subject.

I thought ND had already said that Class Limits was a Match-Level decision?

If it's not, it should be. Artificially restricting the Theatre Clubs on that is unfair.

Several parameters, including this one, are match-level decisions, but please do provide a complete list of units with their class limits, because several matches, Olympic tournaments etc may require them. The same about fantasy/planned ships, FN cards and other match-level decisions.

In other words, offer your members the ability to play in any way they want but in a consistent manner.  For instance, if they want to play with fantasy but also with historical or any other limits they should have access to this information and not have to dig it up.

I don't know what kind of competitions will be run in the clubhouse in the near future (I assume the league is a certain one) and I don't know what rules each one will have, but please don't limit the clubhouse to a specific style (eg all matches should be played with/without class limits or all matches should be between this type and that type) because this lack of diversity leads to engagement of only a limited section of the community which soon leads to tensions.

In fact, it is probably a good time to list the parameters that members can decide before a match. I hope this covers all important ones and if you agree you can add it in the wardroom:

    Official or Forumini navies too?
    Limited or Unlimited Classes?
    Side or Nation?
    + Year (if specified)

You may want to play OLS1942 or FLN or OUN. That's up to the players or the league/tournament organisers. If SrgPoofy and the team feel that the league should be FUN (unintended pun) or OUS, that's up to them, but if it's an unofficial game, choose any of these combinations you want. In fact, I would urge you to include them on the title of your match. E.g. OLN1941 - ClubIndian Vs ClubSouthPacific or even FLS1942 - ClubIndian Axis Vs. ClubIndian Allies, which is probably the most historically correct variant Shocked Laughing.

I hope the barrage of recent changes in the clubhouse have started to make sense.

As far as no class limits goes, I am happy that theater clubs are not being limited to playing class limits......I just wanted it to be clear and in the rules that the theater clubs are not limited to only class limits.  thank you for clearing that up ND, I just wanted to avoid any confusion down the road Very Happy .  As far as what rules players are going to play by, it has always been up to the players to decide what the conditions of their individual matches and I see no sense in changing what has already worked well in the past.

if a player posts a challenge for a 300pt match with a 1942 year limit, that player and the accepting player can build their fleets from anything available from their clubs available units.  They could bring 8 graf zepplins if they wanted (although I don't know why you would want to but you could).  You must always declare the use of FN cards so the other player has the opportunity to include them in their build.  Conjectural units have also never had to be declared as well.

In short, it looks as though we are leaving the playing conditions up to the players (as it should be) and the theater clubs units that are available are fully maped out for historical purposes, which is great!  It has forced us to become experts of our clubs, and will provide our members with some valuable historical feedback!!

Cheers guys, the process of restructuring has been a difficult process for everyone but in the end I think the results will be worth it.
