Surfaced Sub House RuleI wanted to try and houserule a SA for all subs to be able to surface in order to gain speed. I'm not quite sure what effect this would have, but i was considering:
Increase speed to 2
Some Gunnery
Some antiair
Same torpedo values
Lowered armor and vital armor values
Treat as a Torpedo Boat (cannot be hit from extended range, no asw threat, no sea control...)
I believe it could be useful either in games where an asw threat from the air is not present (or eliminated), or even using it as a last desperate attempt to Attack enemy ships.

Actually, the subs in the game are already surfaced when they move. Otherwise their speed would be 1 with slow 3. A surfaced sub would never make more than 19-20 knots, which corresponds to speed 1 in the game (St. Lo).

I've played with rules for Subs on the surface, back when we were trying to make sense of the U-66 having speed 2. For game purposes, we allowed the U-66 to run at a speed of 2, but only by running on the surface. While on the surface, she was immune to ASW, but vulnerable to everything else. We gave her 3/2/1 for Main Gunnery, with an Antiair score of 3, and insisted that she use her torpedoes during the Surface Attack phase. No changes to Armor scores. Although we gave up on the speed 2 thing, we still use the Surfaced Sub rules, once in a while.
Now, if we want to surface a Sub, we just tip it over after moving it. That can be handy when you're dealing with a lot of enemy ASW air units, but it's risky (obviously). It's also useful when you're down to a Sub versus a PT Boat.
