Special Abilities from a bunch of RookiesHey there,
Our rookie group of players has a couple of questions regarding special abilities. We have been playing 150 point games and allow the Axis to use whatever combination they want as no one has the entire 124 units from both sets. Here are some questions:
1) Is it legal to use the Italian Eugenio di Savoia to Establish Screen using a Koln, and then allow the Koln to Lead the Attack? This will result in the Koln achieving an objective on the first turn after moving it's 2 spaces (if it can survive the first turn and there aren't any subs adjacent).
2) If a PT boat is attacked and sunk by the first ship, but it successfully rolls High-Speed Evasion, does another ship get to attack it (similar to the air defense phase - when a bomber is aborted by a ship's AA, nothing else can attack it and then the press the attack roll occurs)?
Thanks,
Ollie

In fact on the gleemax forum it was specifically worded, could they be used in tandem to get to the objectives... answer was yes
That's what infiltration subs are for... to block this move. They can't fire in enemy territory on turn one, but they can fire in neutral waters (AKA objectives) and a flock of dauntless would blow the cruisers out of the water if they are on the objectives.
Your opponent would have to know it is coming though!!

First of all, to you both!
On the question of the Savoia/Koln screen, LongShot is correct, and it does allow you to get to an objective on the first turn. As he points out, though, there are still plenty of hazards, such as subs, planes, and long range battleships.
On the question of High Speed Evasion - I remember that this was clarified a while back, but I don't remember the ruling. However, I would say that a separate High Speed Evasion rule must be made against each attack, and you can make as many attacks as you want.

First, its not sunk by the attack. They simply rolled dice with some "sucesses" but no hits...yet. Your High-Speed Evasion roll occurs simultaneous in gameplay to determine if there were any hits.
You may roll your High-Speed Evasion for every attack by a ship since the text below reads "Whenever this unit is attacked..."
| Quote: | | High-Speed Evasion - Whenever this unit is attacked by an enemy Ship, roll a die. On a 5 or higher, this unit takes no damage from that attack. |

Yes, and, unlike an aircraft being 'aborted' there are no permanent effects of an attack if you succeed at High Speed Evasion. So it can be attacked again and again, in effect the attack just misses as if you had failed to roll enough successes.

This wording worries me. Just so you know, subs cannot contest objectives. The original (outdated) rulebook words this awkwardly. At the end of the turn, if there is a ship capable of claiming an objective on the objective sector, and an enemy sub is adjacent or on the same sector, the surface ship gets the objective. Subs can neither take nor contest objectives.
