Soryu Carrier Fleet

its been a while since i've putting a Japanese fleet together so
please bare with me  Laughing

150 pts:
1x Soryu
3x A6M2 Zero
1x Kongo
2x I-19
1x Nachi
2x A6M2 Zero Kamikaze
2x B5N2 Kate

strategy:
simple, keep all 3 Zero's on the carrier to maintain air surveillance over
the rest of the fleet, Nachi and Kongo will be a pair while the I-19's scout
in front of them, Kamikaze's will do their thing and the Kate's will attempt
to atleast damage the big ships on the other side early on, thats all
i can think of at the moment

any thoughts?

I'd drop Kongo, Nachi, and the Kamikazes to add the Nagato and a Akitsuki (Or Emily), and upgrade the Kates to Jills. So:

150 pts:
1x Soryu (20)
3x A6M2 Zero (18)
1x Nagato (48)
1x Akitsuki (10)
2x I-19 (26)
2x B6N2 Jill (28)

You get a better initiative bonus, a more survivable BB, much improved ASW, and a vastly better attack aircraft with stand off ability in exchange for the primary attack and extra hull point of the Nachi.

Why not take more attack aircraft?  At least so you can fill a sector with three and a fighter.  If they're going to be land based, you could even bring a cheap Betty just to bring the numbers up.

That is the conventional wisdom, but if you're going to use the Jill's stand off ability, then you don't need to fill a sector because ship AA won't be a factor (Except Missouri, San Diego, and Laffey).

However, if stand off is your preferred method of attack, then an Emily, to boost the Jill's range 1 attack, would be preferrable to an Akituski.
