can we use pellet guns?

Now that would be a question for Diamondback to answer.

I am curious about the shooting competition. I just inherited a .30cal bolt action springfield. and several shotguns and a .22 cal 8 shot revolver. Just wondering what exactly are we supposed to shoot with.

Again, a question for Diamondback. He knows more about these than I do.
I'm just here to keep order.

Cealigh, there is a thread in the lounge on this thing. I am in, pistol for sure, rifle if I can find a damn range. I would vote against pelet guns for what it's worth. there is just something unsatisfying about playing against airguns. I mean no offense to any airgunners, just my loose change. There should be two (or maybe more) threads one for pistols and one for rifles. perhaps even shotgun? perhaps subdivisions for scopes and iron sights?

Shotguns? Im In!!! Now, the question is do I take mr Benneli or an Over/Under or an S/S? What set up ? Sporting, FITASC, Driven Bird or cotton tails?
Rifles.... hrrrrm there are bugger all ranges here, Im allowed to play at the USMC at Q. at times when some of the lads from office invite me... not sure if civies can use it tho.... I have a no. 4 smle. and a 375 H&H for big Game, neither are best suited for target work... but are both great fun, if hard work on the shoulder!
Pistols.... All I have is a 32. Walther GSP (not sure if it would be fair to go up against full bore wheel gunners and standard Auto's).
Anyway... Keep me posted, I would love to attend if work permits.

Could be fun. Here's me:
the .30s
most of the .22/5.56s (Sig 556 acquired after pic taken, still need one part to finish build, M16A4 clone has ACOG now)
And I have a few pistols we go that route...

Damn Irish, you got some pretty cool lookin toys there.
'specially like the bullpup AR ya got. Very sweet.
Wish I still had my Beretta AR 70 in 5.56 tho. Damn she was a sweet one.

Licenses? Here in Washington, you don't need no steenking license... unless you're gonna carry it on the street. (Got that piece of paper, anyway...)
As Cealigh notes, different states have different laws, and the Feds have a different set as well. We'll assume anyone participating is legal wherever they live... (If you're not, stay out of this--don't make a liar out of me.)
| PrideoftheRoyalNavy wrote: | | can we use pellet guns? |
Pellet/airguns would have to be their own separate division--it is kind of unfair to have a no-recoil airgun being shot against a full-power kicking-like-a-mule AK, ya gotta admit...
| cealigh wrote: | | I am curious about the shooting competition. I just inherited a .30cal bolt action springfield. and several shotguns and a .22 cal 8 shot revolver. Just wondering what exactly are we supposed to shoot with. |
Your choice, but Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun are all separate divisions--I'll see about starting the appropriate threads. Bonus points, say 5%, added to your score for using a WWII-era-or-before design sound good?
"Subcaliber" weapons (pistols, below 9x19/Parabellum) and scopes, does a -20% on each hit outside the 10-ring penalty sound fair?
Motivation for the idea: Part of my thinking was that this would let us who have such irons help show our less-equipped brethren what different weapons can really do in the field.
Targets:
Pistol: http://www.glockfaq.com/targets/olympics/25m_50m_precision_pistol.pdf
Rifle: http://www.glockfaq.com/targets/olympics/300m_rifle.pdf
Shotgunners: well, do any of you shottie guys have any ideas other than to use a silhouette or "torso" target?
I'm sure there are still questions and bugs we need to work out, so please fire away with any that you see or thoughts on solving them.

We could have a pelet division for the minors

D'oh!
I'd also need to find a suitable pellet/airgun target for that division... edit, from Ducks' suggestion: airgun division, just use the pistol target.

The pistol one works DB, S'what I use with the kids.
The Duckster is a go with the Ruger Mk II .22 for pistol, though I may turn in some 9mm Luger or even .36 Spiller and Burr Black powder (for which I should get bonus points, ever shoot black powder ball ammo?).
May get on board with the 8mm Mauser for rifle, if I can find time to drive to a proper range. (the neighbors complain about the noise outside of deer season, can you believe it?)

At first I thought this post was about shooting Axis & Allies miniatures.

Oh no, MA, that'd be heresy--I'll bet some of these guys would be ready to burn anyone who tried at the stake!

Before you absolutely forbid airguns, perhaps a limitation instead. A longtime shooting friend of mine shoots airguns competitively. A fast MOVING target with a itty-bitty black bulls-eye is the defining competition for those shooters. If pellet gun shooters are going to compete against each other and use such a method - I say hell yes. The difficulty more than outweighs the recoil from our thumpers, shooting prone at a staionary target.
I would like to join in more than one of these shoot-offs, but I have a reason to wait a bit yet. Just wanted my friend to not feel left out.

KG, think we went with "allowed, but in their own division"--sorta like how we wouldn't want a 1911 going up against a boltgun.

So when are we starting?

Good question.
Diamondback?

Anytime you guys are ready--the sooner y'all start, the more chances you have to reach a "personal best" score.
What are we figuring, 50-round course of fire, or 25 due to ammo prices?

Either works for me, .22 and black powder are cheap.

Alright, I may be late but I wanted to point out that somebody shooting using a scope has an unfair advantage over somebody using open sights on a rifle. Also it would be more fair if we had a WWII rifle division which Required that the rifle had open sights and no scope. A modern scoped rifle division would suit everybody else. It's just an idea and nothing else .
PS, Is it too late to sign up?
Thanks,

I am damn near good to go as well, been hell at work but ought to be able to get a couple of range days in over the hols.
Also have now refined/increased my collection by selling the USP and picking up a nice 40. SW allied forces ...and adding a no1 MkIII to the family... and a Nice CETME in 308 with a tin carbs en all the trimmings Tact. set up (my Thanks to the lads in the office!).

Nice tools, TF57. Alas, I can't make this round as a participant--this freak snow-crap around Seattle, in addition to screwing me out of my annual trip to Vegas, has my coach (who I was counting on as observer/eyewitness) unable to leave his neighborhood and the range closed.
Call this a trial-run for something bigger and better in '09?
