no if your ship is destroyed during surface attack it doesnt do torpedoes i think.

If you want to wait its ok. The only mention I can find of this is under the QA thread that says its the same phase. But the rulebook has it go gunnery then torp phase and damage/destruction being added after each phase..

Just for the record, under the new rules the surface phase works as follows-
A surface ship can do Guns and Torbs, or depth charges.
The former torpedo phase is now only the sub phase.
