Rookie question about overwatch

I'm fairly new to this game (3 months). How exactly does overwatch work? It's not in the rulebook.

It's in what are called the "Expanded Rules," a set of optional rules that WoTC released several months ago.  I'm sure the rule is quoted in some thread somewhere on this website.  I don't have time now, but if no one else posts it by the time I get home, I'll dig up a link for you.

Fire on "move into" row only?

Stupid question but I've never seen it asked...

In the case where an enemy vehicle is in an adjacent to your vehicle at the start of your movement turn (you went first) and you call overwatch in that row of hexes which that enemy vehicle is currently in, can that vehicle be defensive-fired upon if it leaves that row (but not to another hex adjacent to the overwatch vehicle), or is overwwatch only effective on vehicles moving into that row during the enemy movement phase?

I asked because my son and I had a debate over this and I had some line of reasoning for why I thought it would also be on leaving but because I couldn't find an answer either way we never played it.

Good job we didn't or I'd never have heard the end of it!

Cheers mate !

G'day
