Rewriting Night FighterAfter 3 sets, the IJN hasn't suffered much power creep, IMO. The only ships that have really been outclassed are Myoko, Jintsu, Yukikaze, and maybe Tone. Although at 23 points Tone is expensive, she still has her niche and therefore really isn't obsolete.
The other three have pretty much been taken out. You could re-cost them, but they all have something in common that could bring them back "up to snuff," Night Fighter.
This SA is reletively worthless on the smaller gunned Jintsu and Yukikaze. Even in the small number of night games I have played, their extra points really aren't worth it. The IJN's forte is their LL torps, so why doesn't this SA help them in this area?
"WHAT!!" you say? Yes, honestly, why can't these ships reroll a LL attack if turn 4 or later? The balance is, in my experience I either win or lose by turn 3 most of the time, so this SA wouldn't come to play that often anyway.
Let's compare them. Would you upgrade Isokaze to Yukikaze at the expense of +1 point, -1 ASW, and no Sub Hunter in exchange for the chance to reroll a LL attack?
Would you downgrade Nachi's 4/9 armor, 6 AA, 4/4/3 2nds, and much larger guns plus Cruiser Killer for Flag 1 and the chance to reroll a LL attack?
How about spend 5 more points for Myoko to gain Flag 1 at the expense of Cruiser Killer for the chance to reroll a LL attack?
I think that this is a quick fix that doesn't require re-costing and brings all of Japan's units back into play.
Thoughts?

I really like this idea. It's a significant upgrade in power level, but those ships already have the overcosting to justify it. A very elegant solution.

Beautiful thinking.

I'm not sure about this. The idea is good, but the ability to increase the chances of a 3-hull hit may be worth even more than these units are currently over-costed.
I like the idea, but man, I'd hold back my 5 Yukikazes for a couple of turns and then rush them in. Yup they are all gonna sink to US BB fire, but instead of all of my ships that missed thier range 2 and 3 LL shots being for nothing, I get a second chance...that is worth more points than they are currently over-costed. IMO.

In Yukikaze's case, you may be right. But in Jintsu and Myoko's case, they are overcosted by so much that I think this is a fair solution.

I don't know about that Greyh Seer, Yukikaze also loses 1 ASW. Although, this makes her more inclined to take the LL shots instead of ASW. Like I said earlier, in my experience, the LL swarms hardly live past turn 3. If they were on the board, it would make the opponent choose to shoot either AA Specialist, Sub Hunter, Smoke Layer, or LL re-roller. That is what makes a game a game, tough choices. I don't think it makes Yukikaze tougher than 12 points, after all, she is still a two hull, two armor unit.

That's funny. It's like we're having the same thread with the same people taking the same positions (and even the same thread title), except for some reason nobody remembered the first one.
