16 participants will battle it out for the gold medal in the "WAS Admirals Cup", the first event of the Forumini Olympics.

You sign in in this thread (when I unlock it) and pick your Admiral (from my Admirals Custom Cards thread http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/about577.html . The choice of Admiral also binds you to a nation. For example, you can't choose an Italian admiral for an American fleet. You cannot change Admiral (or nation) in your next games if you progress in the next rounds.

It's a first-come first-served competition, so run quickly to sign in when I unlock it so that you grab the Admiral of your preference.

After we reach 16 Admirals-Participants, we have the draw for the first pairs.

The game will be as follows:

The Admiral of each player is known to both.

Before each match you choose a fleet of max. 75 points (historical limits apply, although I doubt you can reach them with so few points). You can't use custom WAS cards; only official ones and make sure you take advantage of any Admiral advantage you have in terms of unit costs. Your choice is hidden. You send it to me via Private Message and when I receive both I post them in a separate thread entitled "ADMIRAL CUP - Round 1 - name1 Vs name2". The game will be played in that thread. Each game will have only two objectives of 35 points each.

Victory is claimed at 75 pts

If the opponent has no surface fleet you win 35 pts  (equivalent to one objective).

We use the Rules Clarifications of Richard Baker: http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/War_at_Sea_Clarifications.pdf

The CUP will be a normal single-elimination tournament (stage of 16, stage of 8, semi-finals, final)

I will release the map soon. It will be slightly smaller than the official one. And get used to the dice-roller Wink.

I will do some of the photoshop work for this competition. I hope more volunteers will help and of course the players themselves. Be kind enough to either make your own images or provide with a pm all info to the volunteer who makes the map image for your match, without expecting that he/she goes through all your moves to make it.

Do not expect any mod to be a referee for your matches. If you need rules clarifications you post them in the WAS Rules Clarifications subforum.

The points allocated for the final ranking in the event will be:

Code:

Winner: 40 pts
2nd: 30pts
3rd-4th: 20pts   (those who lost in the semi-finals)
5th-8th: 10pts   (those who lost in the second round)
9th-16th: 2pts   (those who lost in the first round)

These points will count towards the final overall ranking after all events finish, which will decide the FORUMINI OLYMPIC WINNER
NeuralDream

Refer to http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/about577.html for the Admiral bonuses.

They are 17. One will not be picked. There are only 16 places available in the tournament. So, DON'T participate if you won't play your games.

MAKE SURE YOU DON'T PICK AN ADMIRAL THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN PICKED BY SOMEONE ELSE.
NeuralDream

In case you haven't already tried the dice-roller in the AAM and WAS online games subforums, here is how:

Make sure that BBCode is enabled in your post ( i believe it's the default) and type (for 9 dice):

Code:
[dice=9d6]

Don't try to edit or delete a post; it's not gonna work in this forum Wink. Each roll is unique for each post and the preview shows different results than what will be shown in your post when you click submit, so that you aren't tempted to cheat Wink.

Registrations will be open in 5 hrs from now. Come early so that you don't end up with admirals/nations you don't like Wink.

"Gross Admiral Raeder"  got Doenitz. He accidentally posted in the other thread, but I count it.
The_lucky_Y

Some rules question:

Example:

If I float 1 Shokaku with 2 Vals and 1 Zeke in combination with admiral Ozawa they get the point reduction, does another Val (land based do gain that too?

....

How Many Objectives are deployed on the Map?

Does any Fleet must match exact 75 points or can be a slight overrun (76points or 77?) lower seems to be allowed .

Does The Fleet grows up after the first round?

Thanks for counting it. Wink

Land-based due to necessity (no space on carriers) do gain the ozawa bonus as long as they generally can be based on a carrier.

No overrun. Max is strictly 75. Wait to find out what admiral is your opponent before you send me your fleets for the first round.

Each game will have only two objectives of 35 points each.

The next round you will be able to choose new fleet again, but not new Admiral/Nation.

We haven't decided yet what the limit of the next round will be. Probably a bit higher.
Gross Admiral Raeder

Quick q on the D roller. In your example is 9 the number of die rolled?

So if I was only rolling 3 the number would b3 instead of 9?
NeuralDream

Go here http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/about414.html to test the dice-roller. For 3 dice you type
Code:

[dice=3d6]
Gross Admiral Raeder

thats what I thought. Thank you,

How long do you think it may be before enough peeps sign up?

I made my GF hurry at Wal Mart so I would be here at 5pm, 6 eastern.

I really have no idea. There are many who I know would love to play but haven't returned home yet, and some Europeans have already gone to bed, so if they manage to find a place, it will be tomorrow morning for them, very late night for you.

hehe, good job Wink.

Mad Ghost/0331

I will take Raeder
ericjohn

Nimitz
Cpt. John Miller

I'll take Bergamini please....
swarbs

I'll spice it up and take Vian if that's ok.  This will be fun.  Are the point totals going to go up after every turn?

You'll choose fleet before each map. Next round will probably have slightly higher limit. But Admiral of course remains the same. So get into character Razz.
NeuralDream

A kind reminder:

If you choose an Admiral it means that you will do your best to play all your games without too long delays.
Cpt. John Miller

Are we using the out of box rules?
Or Richard Baker's extended rules for Harassed Subs, Engaged Fighters, etc?

Aquarius

I will take Lutjens.

Deutschland uber alles!!!
The Mighty A

I do not know anything about photoshop, so if that is not a problem I will take Campioni.

I know this may be hard with people's personal and work schedules and the global distribution of players, but it seems like it would be nice to try to have "realtime" matches where both players (and moderator) try to find a few mutually agreed hours they can block out and commit to be online, otherwise this could drag on a LONG time

Any thoughts on that - is it possible? Has anyone tried to do that before?
NeuralDream

Not very practical. Also, it would be preferrable if there are no moderators in the games but the players themselves do the photoshop that is needed. Let's see.
Boff

Ozawa!

Smile
NeuralDream

Only four places left.

Once again the friendly reminder:

If you choose one of the last admirals, make sure that you will play your games reasonably often (a few times a day) and you will either do the image editing work yourselves or will provide all info to the moderator so that he only makes the image of the map without having to go through all the moves in each game.
RAEVSKI

I'll be cunninham please!
Can i have Ausssie boats

how many among us are photoshoppers? (not me, for one)

I could type ship names into an excel spreadsheet with a blue background or something like that Smile ...
Aquarius

I would be one, but my computer and Photoshop don't like me. If it gets up and running soon (not likely), then I will help with the maps.
FrozenTech

Hmmm.

I'm in, as long as there's still room (appears there is).  I'll take Halsey - with the understanding that I don't have access to Photoshop.  I could probably get by with MS Paint - but that would probably get ugly.

Very Happy
NeuralDream

Available now:

2 more places.

3 more admirals to choose from (one admiral will not take part).

USA: ----
Britain: Tovey
Germany: ----
Italy: Iachino
Japan: Yamamoto

If you mean HMAS Sydney and Canberra, yes you can.
Gross Admiral Raeder

Surprised no one has picked yammoto, with his bonus to initiative yet
EvilKobra

His other bonus is rather weak in a small-scale game, though, which makes it less attractive.

I think the three remaining admirals really are the weakest of the lot, with the exception of Halsey (which is probably the very worst).
Kondors_Over_Dakota

Crap... I mean Angelo Iachino....   Rolling Eyes
USS Virginia BB 13

I haven't played any online matchs, but if thats not a problem then i'll take Yamamoto.
NeuralDream

And with this last one our registrations close.

In a little while I'll tell you what the result of the draw is for the first round and give you the map.
