The Last Push for Caen: the battle for L'Abbaye d'Ardenne.
Abbaye d'Ardenne, 8th July 1944.
Despite having been in the frontline for more than four weeks and not having received any reinforcements, the 12SS "HitlerJugend" Panzer Division was asked on the night of 8 July to hold one more day the Abbaye d'Ardenne to allow for a timely withdrawal of the heavy guns from Ist SS Korps and, also to bring the (many) wounded to safety, south of Caen. The Abbaye d'Ardenne, an old Norman monastery had been the division's Command post for a few days. It had solid twin towers that the artillery observers used as observation posts.
In the meantime the allied's final push for Caen had started and recon units had already entered the nothern suburds of the city! Tales of savage fighting were ripe (scalping of dead soldiers on both sides!) but the german 18 years old defenders were determined to hold the ground one more day to honor their leader, Kurt "panzer" Meyer. The fight for l'Abbaye d'ardenne was about to begin...

I just picked up some Canadian troops lately -- the infantry and the Eagle Eyed NCO. I really like those sculpts. Makes me thirsty for more Canucks!

Good minis indeed but great warriors too by all acounts.
I'll try to post battle tips next week. It's an interesting scenario with many possible assault and defence combinations.

Hello Snips, i hope i did not bother you by posting this scenario?
I'm following the HJ division's history since last august and it's true they mainly fought in normandy.
As i write this i realise that there are so many scenarios we could write about the Caen campaign. Each engagement has its own amazing stories...
I've sneaked through the last chapter regarding the HJ division in normandy (before the winter Ardennes offensive)and seen its last battle was just outside of my hometown of Rouen!
I might start on this since i've got nothing planned at the moment once i've finished reading the memorial album: a scenario taking place in my town! (well just south of it!)

I dont care... looks like a good scenario. I'll play yours soon hopefully. I'll still push on with my Caen scenarios and maybe do my own version of the last battle as well. I dont have a trademark on history so dont worry about stepping on my toes. lol
Thanks for posting it...good work!
