CAMPAIGN: Japan VS. USSR - Op. Javelin (1942-43)HEY TO ALL!
I've decided to write one large campaign. Instead of making a few large scenarios I will be writing many small scenarios.
Operation Javelin follows the (fictional) Japanese attack against the USSR after the USSR's attack on the Japanese that only got so far. The Japanese considered the Soviet attack to be a minor victory for the Soviets, while the Soviets thought it was great and won them the war.
This first scenario follows Dog Company of 24th Mechanised Infantry Regiment, USSR. This is Operation Pheonix. Dog Company is a scout company designed to lead the way and scout ahead of the main army. General Zorkhov leading the USSR's attack suspects enemy troops in the surrounding area and sends out scout companies to get intel. What Dog Company doesn't expect is the 10th Assault Groups Fox company of Japan attacking them. In this battle Dog Company was completely annhilated. Now you get a chance to replay this fateful day.
MAP: F1 of NA
Armies:
USSR = 102
T-70 x3
Mosin Nagant x6
PPSh-41 x3
Half Track x3
PTRD - 41 x1
Fanatical Sniper x1
Veteran NCO x1
Japan = 130
Arisaka Rifle x4
Azad Hind Fuaj x4
Antitank Rifle x2
Imperial Sgt. x1
Type 92 MG Team x2
Imperial Sniper x3
Ha-Go x1
Ka-Mi x1
Te-Ke x2
Chi-Ha x1
Ignore command dependent for this scenario.
Victory Conditions: Whoever holds the town at the end of 5 turns is victorious. If nobody holds the town then whoever has the most points left in their units (combined total of all point costs for their units on the field).
AAR: This proved to be a very even scenario. It came down to who had more points left in units at the end. By turn 5 the Soviets had kicked the Japs out of the town but the Japs kicked the Soviets out at turn 4 but weren't able to get back to the town in time. The Soviets ended up winning, 18 points to 14 points. I liked it alot. it's simple and quick. Expect Operation Javelin to be made of many scenarios like this.
PICS!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/32665310@N05/4117808003/in/photostream/ 3 turns of play and this is what has survived
http://www.flickr.com/photos/32665310@N05/4117809599/in/photostream/ soviets move to kick japan out of the town on turn 4
http://www.flickr.com/photos/32665310@N05/4118581100/in/photostream/ what's left after 5 turns of play. a very close game but the soviets pull away with the win.
Coming up next - Op. Hotel - the Japanese assault a soviet mobile military base in hopes of greatly hurting the soviet war effort. Part II of Operation Javelin campaign.
As always let me know what you guys think!

Looks good. A lot of good what ifs regarding USSR vs Japan. Japan was considering attack the USSR after seeing Germany's early success in 1941. It's interesting to think what would have happened if Japan had tied down some or all of the forces that Zukhov used to defend Moscow and repel the Germans in the winter of 1942.
