AAM Maps

As I could not find many maps I wanted, I have created some Smile

I will present them here - together with any others you own we can create here a library for players.
Sindor

First: a slight remake of Betio Map. Convertible with free hexes for any scenario with airfield (try Crete 1941 or Norway 1940).

Second: modification of base maps with railroads. Can be used for partisan actions, attack on supply convoys, for strategic points in the campaign etc.

DOWNLOAD in .zip

I was looking for exactly that!  chufted

Shouldn't this thread be in one of the AAM forums, instead of a WaS forum?

I'll move it.
Toyama

Wow, these maps are great! wow
Sindor

And more to come  Wink Sorry for the misplacement.

We have finished also Jungle maps
(however these are not our original production, just a remake of unfinished ones from the web)
Sindor

Idea You may find nearly all official maps here:

All Wizzards maps

But you know it for sure already (Wizzard Rincewind collection Smile )
Sindor

I am still searching for Winter maps, quite difficult to make; a conversion from Steel Panthers has very poor quality. But I am working on it (probably of winter satellite map divided on hexes).

We have created some separate hexes to add on your maps, see the  Hexes  & Counters Guide.  I will post these hexes here only if you wish, otherwise you should be able to save them from that MS Word document in original size (when you stretch the hex icon, that's why the file has nearly 4 Mb 8) ).

+ 2 City maps with rivers and factories and some other still in workshop.
Piemaster

these are great!!  clap
Grenzewolf

Wow this is realy great stuff.  Thanks for Sharing!
SgtFury

Nice job on the maps and extra hex tiles. I'll have to download them and incorporate them into my next game.

I especially like the the airstrip map.   Wink  Wink

Thank you
Thank you
Thank you for those railroad hexes!!  I just purchased some Micro Machines train pieces to represent a Polish armoured train, to use with Sharpe's HHR cards.  These will work beautifully!!!
Polish_Cavalryman

what do you need for .png files?

Windows  Very Happy + I am using PSP 9.0 for drawing, but simple IrfanView could do the job as well. .Jpg format is blurring the images, .gif has 256 colors only ... if you know any other good format, tell me.

.jpg doesnt have to blur the image. In the save as jpg properties choose max quality. then it's like png and much smaller in size.

I use png only for transparent images, such as many of the sigs I make in this forum, because .gif is terrible with its 256 color limit. The problem is that many still have old browsers and don't view .png files properly. E.g. on i.e. 6, a transparent part in a .png would appear black.

First, monumental map of

Prague 1945
***
Prague 5-11 May 1945

Experimental photo-realistic map. 2,6 Mb in .jpg format, 6 lists, for large battles.

Background: (from Wikipedia)

The Prague Uprising was an attempt by the Czech resistance to liberate the city of Prague from German occupation during World War II. Events began on May 5, 1945. The uprising went on until May 8, 1945. Roughly 1,700 Czech insurgents died during the fighting.

The Prague Offensive was the last major battle of World War II in Europe. The battle for Prague was fought on the Eastern Front from May 6 to May 11, 1945. This battle is particularly noteworthy in that it ended after Third Reich capitulated on May 8, 1945.

The city of Prague was ultimately liberated by the Soviets during the Prague Offensive. All of the German troops of Army Group Centre (Heeresgruppe Mitte) were killed, captured, or fell into the hands of the enemy after the capitulation. The capitulation of Army Group Centre was nine days after the fall of Berlin and three days after Victory in Europe Day.

Shocked  Wow  Shocked

Your Prague map is insane. I love the Idea of Photo realistic maps.

How did you get that Photo? Was it Google Earth?

Bad web provider, sorry. I can open it and some others too. Try several times during the day - if not, I will send them on your e-mail. If you know about any better provider, tell me.

Prague is from Google maps. Several printscreens. And yes, if you look close enough, you can see some skyscrapers and modern buildings; but I am pretty sure I will not find a 1945 satellite map  Wink I am planning to make Berlin, Warsaw and few others.
Tyree67

I got it to work now. Thanks for all you do.

On-line maps:

Eagle has landed

* Hex K3 is Large Building (no entry for Vehicles, cover for Soldiers on 4+, blocks LOS).
* K4, H2 and P7 are considered "buildings" hexes (but without road bonus)
* K1, K2, I2 and I3 offer cover only from sides cut by buildings (like hedges).
* I1&J5 are Shell holes (see combat zone tile set II)
* H1 and all other hexes are standard (plains, forests, hills, roads).

For all maps: Defending players should start 2 hexes around the respectively sided objectives. Attacker may choose one of two more distant sides for the attack.

SturmVogel

Good maps!! Very nice to have new map configurations around (especially railroads). I have a question though. I guess that the concentric circles in the maps represent the objective. What do the 1s and 2s in different background mean (for example, Eagle has Landed map, hexes E4 and H2)?

Thanks.

These are objectives for Defensive scenarios - if you want to play with  defender/attacker setup, I suggest the defender should deploy in the 2-hexes area around the objectives on its side. So these 1/2 markers are designed for "scenario" setup - they are placed on map key points rather than in the center.
Demotox

Those maps are pretty good. Wish I could print them out on the same material as the regular maps without using more than the same number of sheets for the regular maps... Sad

Sorry, these ones are only for on-line games. But you can make them out of the maps mentioned in this discussion earlier (Airport map, Russian maps etc.)

All are in V 1.0. design.

City Map I
Mad Ghost/0331

quick question regarding these maps. my opponent has access to a large ploting printer (for tactical maps). is there any where to get maps that will print well at about 36 inches x 48 inches or so. we find the issued maps insufficeint, but we also want the map hexes to stay the right size. thoughts?
Sindor

It is ... 90 x 120 cm Surprised  Oh my god. No, these ones are not designed for such sizes. I would suggest to take a satellite or historical map and divide it on hexes.
Mad Ghost/0331

yeah, it's big. my buddy is the Adjudent (sp) for a General just up the road and they have large format printers for real maps for arty and what not and we figured why not put the taxpayer's money to some good use. I love the details of these maps, we just want biger ones so we could play some movement to contact, company or battalion sized engagments, get some manuver warfare going as opposed to constantly being in close assault work.
Sindor

:- City Map I * 28.4. Updated (.jpg); hexes marked "C" are clear terrain.

15.5.: City Map 2 Finished Idea

City 2 map
Sindor

New terrain

For HHR Set 7, we will also issue new type of terrain - mountains:

- Vehicles: off-road movement disabled
- Artillery with Relocate SA: off-road movement disabled
- Infantry without "Mountain troops" SA may move only in their assault phase ("boys, pack your guns and start climbing !").

Few competitive designs are in play:

"Classic" - for v1.0 maps

"Satellite" - for any maps, true historical terrain enabled x less accurate for unit movement

Wow i really like them. How do you print them? On your computer printer or do you go to a professional printshop for good results?
Sindor

My father prints it at work on A3 hard paper sheets (on a large office printer).
Sindor

Idea Could anybody make a scan of new 3" maps and send them to me? A low resolution scan is enough, I need them for Scenarios purposes, and I don't have an access to large scanner anymore (in fact, any scanner).

Following scenarios are in queue:
a) Battle of Shanghai 1937 - CHI x JAP
b) Krete 1941 - German Paras
c) Amiens Prison Raid 1944 – Br. Mosquito + P.O.W. x German MG's + Luftwaffe inf.
d) Leningrad, winter 1942
e) Pearl Harbor 1941
f) Finland 1940
g) Croatia 1942/43; Prinz Eugen SS division x Tito partisans in mountains
h) Australia x Japan: Sattelberg Heights 25 Nov 1943, with Matilda tanks

Hello all!  I'm looking for the maps out of the 1939-1945 Starter pack in an online format.  Does anyone have these or could you point me in the right direction?  I have been unsuccessful myself.

Thanks!
