The current state of Dreadnought RisingThe DR project is progressing very well thanks to the many hard-working foruminians. We're in the middle of alpha phase with 25 cards already and about a dozen more units waiting to get their cards. Several rules are debated, but the fact is that even in its alpha phase (WAS rules plus 1-2 new rules) and with only 25 cards, the game is already fun.
In the next 3 months, we will continue making new cards and debating rules until about February. By then, we will have discussed all this enough to be able to move to the beta phase, and from then on the game will get two rulesets. A gamers' one, which will be almost the same as the current one, but will use point costs (almost identical to WAS but without consideration for year of availability), and a historical, a bit more advanced ruleset that will use the historical monetary costs, possibly squadron rules, maybe more advanced facing, etc.
In beta phase, we will probably also have a new logo and maybe modified stats.
Also, it is our aim to involve as many foruminians as possible in the project and have some sort of rotation until the game exits the beta phase. Apart from the "job" of the project leader (LotharLutjens), all other tasks are open to everyone:
- monetary cost research
- blueprint research
- card making
- playtesting
- rules
Briefly the timeline that I suggested above
- until February: Alpha phase. Current rules + about 40-70 cards, discussions on several alternative rules
- February: Enter Beta phase. Two rulesets to be developed, one basic for gamers and one advanced for simmers.
- Until the summer: Final name and logo. Final stat guidelines. Final cards. Final rules and a nice party to celebrate the first community-produced game in the history of wargaming .

Community produced wargame, I hadn't really thought of that. So we're breaking new ground. Maybe we should start a reality TV show called "The making of THE GAME". Ahem.......Back to reality.

MTV would play that show before they would resort to actually playing music.
