Scenarios in the works from General Hoth.

Hello Chaps.

After my Kursk scenario and its' First World One battle type you can expect something about Hill 112 (and 113) in Normandy.

The Brits and Scots against the II SS Corps.

I'm deep into Mabire's "SS panzers in Normandy" and "Enfer sur la cote 112", an Heimdal ilustrated publication. There's a lot of good pictures, battle maps and unit organisations for both sides.

Inspiring. Cool
general Hoth

OOps i might have to put my Hill 112 scenario on hold as i have just received Red Baron's awesome custom-made D Day map.

Time to play the Olympics winner for me! Cool

Thanks Baron! D-day sherman on the way.
general Hoth

I've just bought this amazing new book: "combats blindés dans les plaines de Hongrie- 1944".

100 pages of battle situation maps in late war Hungary , illustrations, an article about the use of king tigers , another about the last U-boats, the complete review of Hungary's tank force and the history of the iron cross.

Nice material! Cool
general Hoth

I just did a couple of play test this afternoon for my hill 112 scenario.

My line up almost worked fine from the start. Very Happy
Scotts and brits against the SS Frundsberg and the last tigers from Abteilung 102 before it got transferred to Vire.

Also I had fun customizing one of my Churchill AVRE, cutting the horrible roof off. It looks way better without. Cool

the next goal is to bring into the scenario victory conditions  the Orne river so that all of the map areas could be active.
Pasalades

Sounds good.  I"m looking forward to it.  I also found the fascines on the AVRE largely unnecessary.  Most people I know snipped them off.
general Hoth

Hill 112 scenario is almost ready. I'll give it another spin just to make sure. Cool

Soon here.
general Hoth

I've almost finnished reading Beevor's D DAY (recommended) and Heimdal's (the publisher-Bayeux) History of the First US army.

I believe i've got enough information to start a sort of mini- 1st US army campaign.

The units on both sides are varied and very colourfull (paratroopers, rangers, recon, heroes and greens) Cool

Saint Pierre du Mont scenario is almost ready. Very Happy

The mission is to rescue Ruddel's rangers.
general Hoth

Heimdal..., it seems the list of rare and out of print "memorial' or "historique" books from this amazing norman publisher gets longer and longer. They are perfect for scenario writing, lots of pictures, real situational maps and AARs.

It's 1st US "memorial" album already fetches 70 euros on e bay! Cool

All this to tell you that i bought for an astronomical sum (well above 70 euros, my wife will kill me!) the "memorial" album for the 12th SS division written by none other than Hubert Meyer (not to be confounded with its commander "panzer" meyer) ,the 2nd in command. With pictures taken from his own personnal stock.

So you've guessed, expect a nice scenario late this summer including the men from the HJ. Cool
general Hoth

Last night we've had in normandy the biggest storm ever (well since d-day) so even if my family slept throught it like babies i decided to get out of bed and got to do 3 playtests of the 1st Us Army campaign part 2: Carantan until it was (almost) time to get to work.

First, the map worked wonders (all from the expanded rules, thanks to the "what maps do you own thread").

The two first games, despite adjusting here and there left the german forces shattered with no hope to win.

But the 3rd game (with updated german and US forces) worked fine.

I've already taken a few pictures of playtests were you can see the thunderstorm through the windows!!

Carantan should be ready early July as i still have to do a bit of research and playtests.

Get your paratroopers ready! Cool
general Hoth

I've done a lot of research (and playtests) for my 1st US army campaign recently and still wasnt sure if the last instalment would go North (Cherbourg) or South (Saint Lo).

Well after a first disastrous playtest last night, i've decided, the last part will be Saint Lo. Cool

The remains of the 3rd fallschirmjager (plus support from the Das Reich) against the US 29th Infantry division.

Soon here. Cool
general Hoth

I might have been a bit over optimistic with my St lo scenario. After research I find it really hard with the maps available not to transform it into an ersatz of my hill 112 scenario.
I dont think it would be interesting enough.

So i've decided to switch to a new topic. Maybe later if a great map-idea strikes me i'll finnish the 1st US Army campaign.
For players who have followed it you can still play it as a 2 games mini campaign. Very Happy

Regarding my next scenario:
I've just done the (first) line up and found the maps (from EF).
I'm very excited as it is about the fall of Berlin.
It will probably be called "raising the flag on the Reichtag" with special rules regarding the red banner, SS hand to hand ability, and the last german tanks from the "von salsa" panzer abteilung. Cool
general Hoth

As a teaser, from my platest #4, the assault on the reichstag. Cool

It's far from finnished as the special rules are taking me a lot of time.

Soon here. Wink
RedBaron

I am watching you General!

What's with the match sticks?

You need to adjust your Macro on that photo machine Very Happy I ain't seeing clear here!

i know, this poor camera is all i have so far but its my birthday monday, and i've wished strongly for a new camera!! Maybe my wife will do something about it...

the match stick is the red army banner. Cool
RedBaron

I see!

"Happy Birthday!" then and may you get what you wish for!

Red Army Banner you say Smile
general Hoth

If i get a nice new camera i'll have a look for counters in my wargames collection and see if i can customize something nice looking like a real flag. Cool

the mission of my next scenario is (you've guessed it already) to raise the flag on the Reichstag building.

tough job on April 30 as it was officially raised on May 1st.

Also i know someone did for this year's olympics a colour picture of the "classic" soviet pic where you see the flag being raised. I'd love to use it for this scenario.
general Hoth

Just to let you know my friends i'll be off line for two weeks from 16th august onwards.
As i always do i'll be in Ibiza relaxing and playing AAM or WAS next to the swimming pool. Cool
Please excuse my absence.
RAEVSKI

u are excused Smile
general Hoth

That's it I'm off with my wife for two weeks. Cool

I'm not allowed to bring my laptop along...

I'm gonna miss you guys. Rolling Eyes

Back in september; in the meantime: Game on!
general Hoth

Back from holidays and damned tanned!
Didnt get to play AAM in about 3 weeks (apart from a quick polish vs german firefight on the online Berlin map i got printed).

Happy to be back as i found in the postbox a copy of the Sharpedia and a package full of greeks and finns from miniatures market. Very Happy

During my stay in Ibiza i went through two great books:

-the memoirs of Kurt Meyer "grenadiers" (absolutely awesome scenario material for the eastern and normandy fronts), i'm glad i found an english translation as i almost bought it in german a language i do not master!

-and "Hitlerjugend, album historique" by none other than Hubert Meyer, the chief of staff of the division (again awesome pictures and notes from the man himself)

Both men survived the war!! Reading these books, it almost seemed impossible.

So expect some nice scenarios this autumn. Cool

I'll also take some time soon to go trough all the posts on the scenarios' page (and there was a few in the last couple of weeks) once i'm updated at work!
general Hoth

I've got a good "old school" scenario in the pipeline using the original 2" maps.
Few units and fun to play.

The background is the last push for Caen 44. You will be fighting it out for an old church. Cool
general Hoth

The batlle for the old church at Ardenne, Caen 44. Soon here. Cool
Panzer Commander

Bring it!  Smile
general Hoth

The scenario is ready and (i believe) balanced. It's just that i've had a busy week. With a bit of luck this Thursday! Cool
general Hoth

Something strange is happening to me: i've got nothing planned yet. Free as a bird as the song says! Cool

Well almost.

I'm thinking of a SINGLE map battle US vs Japan, probably the defence of the Manilla harbour. that could be a fun battle. Japenese marines and stragglers against american regular infantry. Wink

On the other hand, i've almost read the huge (600 pages long) historical hitlerjugend book written by Hubert Meyer. First class account with real situational maps. I might have something there too. Idea

What would you prefer?
Steel_Panther

Both! Very Happy
general Hoth

I've decided, i need a break from the normandy scenery.

Manilla's harbour it will be. Cool

Pic from my first playtest. It was promising... Wink

general Hoth

Just to let you know what i've got in the making:
-i've gathered enough information for an early war scenario taking place in holland featuring the LAH's recon.
-i've started playtests for the "battle of Lvov, Poland 41" with some really interesting line ups. Still have to spice up the scenario a bit though.
-i've just received red baron's "Kursk" map so i guess i'll work on something here too, for the lucky few who have it. It will be a monster scenario with lots of units and might take place somewhere else than kursk. It's still a bit early to say as i have barely just opened the package. Laughing

Finally, for the 3D adepts, i've also received a lot of 3D elements. pictures soon. Cool

Well, the map can be simulated very easily with WotC "technology" also. It has very little cover so I believe it can be done. As for people who have this map, 5 copies are out, one is mine, so 6 lucky few as you say, until now.

I want to see your scenario making talent. Let me see what you can do, since your other scenarios I haven't played because I do not use WotC "paper". Smile

regards,
general Hoth

I'll do my best to honor your beautifull map.
Should be ready before christmas. Cool
RedBaron

you know that joke?

"Q: What are you doing for Christmas?
A: Carnage at Kursk!"

Laughing
general Hoth

LOL. Very Happy

A little pic from LVOV 41. Not finished but getting there.

acs0424

Can't wait to see an Early War scenario.

Have you done an invasion of france?  With the Early War Set and france being pretty much filled out I know I will be redoing mine (and maybe I will post some of my scenarios).

I'm sure our head scenario guy could right an amazing Early War one.

Same here, i dont have the original WoTc maps anymore so i cant play your other scenarios. But this is definitely on  my watchlist Cool

Do your best, General   Very Happy
general Hoth

I Will do Wes......latchi. Wink

It's my next project once i'm done with my LVOV scenario.

Regarding Lvov, last night, i found the victory conditions. I'm rather pleased with them. Both sides will have to attack AND defend to win. Cool

The scenario depicts the only known battle were the T35 were used. I can tell you, this machine, game-wise, is a beast.
Westentaschenschlachti

Lol...it looks like i have to find a new nickname  Very Happy
general Hoth

I've had my first playtest of my next scenario "IIIrd Panzer Korps" using Red Baron's kursk map.
It took the best of 6 hours of play! Rolling Eyes
And it was great.
Once i had decided on the line up using the book IIIrd Panzer Korps by a well known french historian, Didier Lodieu i started play around 2am then finished this morning.
A few flaws were obvious after a few turns:
-the soviets lacked more transport (i should have known better the map is so big...) AT guns and a few more tanks.
-the germans lacked infantry, an extra spotter and AT guns too.
-I havent used any planes as the area covered by the scenario had little air support (most planes were further north) but might still consider adding some.
Please bear with me before i unleash this monster scenario as it takes a lot of space (and time) to play.

But the first game was very promising. Cool
general Hoth

Ok.
I've got my monster scenario "IIIrd panzer korps" in the making, 2 playtests so far but it's gonna take a while to finnish (hopefully before christmas)...
But in the meantime i'm looking at putting up a simple "beer and bretzels game" together, so,
My dad just offered me the new biography of Rommel and there is some serious interesting material there...I've only read 4O pages so far.
And, i just read an interesting article about the battle of Poteau, Ardennes 44. Which curiously matches episode 7 of the War. Cool
