what about AA?

I know nothing about WWI naval AA. Did they ever use AA? Did it do anything? Which aircraft models were used in naval operations? and a thousand more questions.

Yes, "Archie" , or AA was a developement of the era. Most ships in the beginning of the war had none, but by the end of it, AA was common on most vessels. Not super abundant, but definitely, " Times were a changin". To reflect this I suggest a minimal number on all ships for AA to represent Small Arms fire, then, we can add more to this number if the given ship had AA guns on board. ( I suggest AA 2 for small arms fire for now)

That's a reasonable approach. Please add it to the guidelines when you find time.

I know someone at our local game store who said that a British ship in WWI used AA gun to desroy a torpedo the was coming at it. Don't know the name of it. Maybe if we can find it it could be an SA.

Try "googling" for it. I spent 2 hours looking for it, and could not find it. Just info on Torpedo nets and the evolution of torpedos.

I would not know what to call it but something like "if this ship is hit by a torpedo, roll a die. On a 5 or 6 this ship does not take damage."

Confused

But the problem is trying to fond the name of the Ship. We can narrow it down.

there is mention in osprey's jutland of specific anti torpedo armament (fast fire low depression guns) that was occassionally used as AA armament as well.

i'll try and find something more solid on that. Smile

other unconventional torpedo defense was using heavy MG fire to detonate the Torpedo far away enough from the ships hull.

In WW2 some British frigates uses depth charges with very shallow depth adjustment to blow up incoming GNAT homing torpedos and normal torpedos, did not know exactly that depth charges are used frequently in WW1

it would seem that the anti-torpedo armament i noted was a trunciation of "anti-torpedo boat" and so where not ment to be used in a direct fire mode against torpedos themselfs.

the guns classed as such here QuickFire (QF) 3 inch guns (12pdrs) and had a range of around 1200 yards (early torpedos had a range of some 400 yards.  Shocked )and it seems ships equipt with them had one port and one starboard weapon. it may be that they would have no appreciable effect in WaS Dreadnought Rising...
