100 point Allied Convoy build Defender

Looking to do a build for the Convoy scenario.  I have a good attacker German U-boat build, but I am trying to come up with a good Allied Build that is somewhat historically accurate.  Here's what I am thinking about bringing:

Illustrious-20
Barracuda x2-24

St. Lo-10
Wildcat-7

Arunta-7
Haida-7

Total so far: 75

I am wondering if I should bring the Fencer, but she's slow.  And would a Catalina be historically accurate?

What should I do with the extra 25 points?

I'd actually bring another destroyer or two before anything else.  Maybe replace the St. Lo + Wildcat for a Fencer + Hurricane or even Swordfish

Any reason for the Fencer as opposed to the St. Lo?  I mean other than historical.

the added fighter cover is nice, so if you're facing Stukas or Kondors, you can still have some AA while picking up another ASW platform.  Or if you put a Hurricane on it (or better yet, switch a hurricane to your Illustrious and put a 'cuda on the Fencer) you'll be able to better cover your fleet from air-attacks.

But definitely switch the place of the wildcat and the 'cuda.  Maximize your AA and your ASW that way (wildcat to the Illustrious [call it a Martlet] and 'cuda to the St. Lo)

Ok, I'll try this:

Fencer-14
Barracuda-12

Illustrious-20
Barracuda-12
Hurricane-5

Haida-7
Arunta-7

77 So far

USS John Butler-6

St. Lo.-10
Wildcat-7

I am also thinking about switching the St. Lo and Wildcat with maybe the HMAS Sydney.  Should I have even more Destroyers?

If you have a good German U-boat build, then for the allies I would bring all the destroyers I could to protect the convoy.
Commissar_JPH

Well, if the build is heavy on U-boats and light on aircraft, then you could replace the Wildcat and John C. Butler with another Barracuda.

That would give you the following:

HMS Illustrious: 20 points
---Barracuda Mk. II: 12 points
---Hurricane: 5 points
HMS Fencer: 14 points
---Barracuda Mk. II: 12 points
USS St. Lo: 10 points
---Barracuda Mk. II: 12 points
HMCS Haida: 7 points
HMAS Arunta: 7 points

That gives you a good amount of air-based ASW that can go out every turn

If you're gonna be facing aircraft, then drop the Wildcat for another Hurricane, drop the John C. Butler, and add another Arunta or Haida, or if your opponent will allow you to go 1 point over, a Hoel, Laffey, or Javelin.

And if you insist on taking the Butler.....exchange her for the Sammy B.  The Sammy B. has a better ASW rating and has Sub-Hunter.
