"Air Mission" vs "Air Placement"

(First off, I accidentally posted in the Army one, but caught my mistake)

Just picked up a starter and a couple of boosters from each set and was playing with my friend from work.

I have tried to find in the forums the answer to my question but couldn't.  The rules call this phase the "Air Mission Phase" yet only talks about placing units.  I understand the need to declare strafing or not at this point.  And I understand that aircraft can only make one action in a round.

But let's take a Beaufighter for example who has torpedoes and some AA.  Do I just place the aircraft, and wait until my Air Defence phase to decide if I want/need to use the AA or not?  And then use torpedoes if not?

Or when I place him on the board do I have to declare that he is using torpedoes?

Thanks

As per the rules, you don't need to make any decisions on what type of attack to use until you actually make it.  Sor for Beaufighter, in the air defence phase you can choose to use guns, or choose to pass that up so that you can use a different attack later.  Then  if you didn't use AA you can choose your attack in the air attack phase.  If you're more interested in historical accuracy, you can declare the 'payload' of your aircraft when it is placed, but there is no requirement to do this in the rules.
