Proper boardgame from which to campaign?

While I acknowledge with admiration the work done to bring the A&A mini community the online A&A boardgame campaign, I really think there are much more appropriate games available.

For one thing, the jump in scale was a bit hard to take seriously.

The first game system that came to mind was the old PanzerBlitz/PanzerLeader. However, is this too close to A&A minis scale?

I'd like to pose two questions: What do you think is the most appropriate boardgame to create connected A&A minis games, and what would you use to transfer a situation on the board to minis on the table?

Oh, and don't be afraid to tackle the WAS side, as well, though this seems more straightforward to me.

Extremely interesting question. Let's see what our forumers will answer.

I would guess that any of the A&A boardgame specific battles Would work nicely. Guadalcanal is the newest.

Now this might seem way crazy but I would have each soldier/vehicle/whatever for the A&A board game represent a number of soldier/vehicle/whatever for the minis game, now here is where I differ from everyone else, I would have cards to keep track of each and every different unit in the minis game.

for instance  in the case of the regular board game

Land  1 IPC= 3-4 points (depends on how big you like your battles)
soldiers=reg soldiers/commanders
tanks=Tanks/Tank destroyers
artillery=everything else Vehicle/Soldier
Anti-Air= is used as obsticles/support

Sea 1 IPC= 2-3 points  (depends on how big you like your battles)
destroyers=Destroyers/Torpedo Boats/Cruisers
battleships=Battleships
submarines=Submarines
Aircraft Carriers=Aircraft Carriers
transports=Transports

Air 1 IPC= 3 points worth of air support for either Land or Sea
Aircraft=Aircraft

for each miniature on the board game you have one card like below
when you buy a unit you choose how many IPCs to spend and then choose what units you buy with the points you receive.

Ex. I'll buy 5 IPCs worth of soldier, I now choose 20 points worth of AAminis soldiers and write them down,

Unit Type_Soldier_Unit#_3_
--------------------------------
Unit Name
__M1 Garand_________x_3
__BAR Gunner________x_2
____________________x__
____________________x__
____________________x__
____________________x__
____________________x__
____________________x__
____________________x__
____________________x__

I then fight and lose 2 Garands, so I remove 2 Garands from the roster

Unit Type________Unit#___
--------------------------------
Unit Name
____________________x__
____________________x__
____________________x__
____________________x__
____________________x__
____________________x__

The above post is a bit of rambling but the idea is that you make Each AAminis army once then keep track of it

most people just make the armies each battle.

Thanks, Eric!

I was reminded of the phrase 'be careful what you wish for...', not that it was really rambling, but will take a bit to get my head around. Well done!

I'll admit, I hadn't thought of the other A&A's, though Battle of the Bulge, while lacking my beloved naval engagements, would probably work even better. Excellent points and still using current A&A, the kind of thing that the WotC/AH gods would approve, no doubt!

I'd even suggest writing a work up a post to the company A&A boards, with the proper mention of http://aaminis.myfastforum.org... ;->=

Still, the scale jump still seems impressively large to the quibbler in me. Anyone else?

In closing, many thanks to ND! This forum is proving to be a life saver, and your praise of my simple questions is unexpectedly generous of what I have to admit is sheer sloth on my part.

I've tried working up my own conversion/campaigns, and have come up lacking. Part of the problem, of course, is the relatively few games of the miniature systems I've played.

I've tried to support the systems at the store I partly own, but I know simply playing games there would be the best support I could do.

Now THAT is rambling!
