new special cause club Canada (RCN/RCAF)

Seeing the RAAFFF club we canucks (and sympathizers lol) should band together and do one for us in support of the history of our armed forces and Canada in the various games.

I support your idea, mate! But, obviously can not join...

Yes, well, you would need to find a list of aircraft and ships that fought with Canadian crews that are not represented in the W@S game with Canadian cards with their own, er hum, watered down stats. Doh! That hurts when I read it. Wink You could draw on both UK and USN units. Seriously, you Canadians should do it, mate. The avatar badge should be no problem for you guys. It is a shrunken down 110x60 pixel jpg image.

Cheers,

Admiral Woodside

I could get behind that Smile

Yeah it would be a good way to unite our rather large unrepresented group of Canadians across the board.

Encompassing all 3 land, air, navy what would our avatar be?  Something ww2 or avro arrow?

Well, Avro Arrow does tie into my Avatar text [hint]

In all seriousness though we should discuss it with the group and come to a consensus, and while I love the Arrow we should probably do something more thematically WW2.

Count me in!!

The De Havilland Mosquito covers all three and since a whole ton were built here and flown by Canadians, it fits!!
LcdrSwizzle

I think this is a great idea, and I live too far south to join.

However, may I offer:
A mosquito, Haida and a Sherman Tank.

Yeah maybe a mosquito overtop one of the Canadian armed forces flags during ww2.

Thanks, buddy!  I'd be all for adding certain folk as honourary Canadians.  Some kind of pledge.

1.  From now on they'd have to spell it favoUr, neighboUr, honoUr etc

2.  Drink at least one beer/glass of whiskey a week

3.  Sit through an entire hockey game

4.  BBQ something while there's snow on the ground (where available)

Canadian Club

I wonder if the text of the Canadian contingent could use the same typeface as the distinctive Canadian Club whisky logo.

I'd be for the Mosquito -- but if it's to be air, land and sea, I'd suggest the Buffalo (an Amtrak would do) for the land component, as it was a big part of the Canadian transport solutions in the flooded Dutch landscape they fought oh so hard to liberate.

2 & 4 are acceptable to me, not even challenges.
3 could be tough, but if I can watch romantic comedies with my wife, I should have the patience to make a whole hockey game!
1. I can't spell nuthing, whether in oUr dictionary or yoUrs. oUch! Oh, you forgot coloUr?

I can make logos, if yoU need the help, thoUgh I'm sUre yoU have the talents elsewheres.

Did this club get off the blueprints or is it still in the pondering stage?  It does seem like a neat idea and too bad im just a bit too far south for "this potentially new club".

i think someone was going to make an avatar for it, the core group (jbc waterloo) already exists this would give us an avatar like the metro shore battery group and a canadian theme to draw in others outside of jbc waterloo.
RH

OK, although not a member of any existing club I am definitely in for either Club Canada WAS or Canada Club whiskey. I would also be up for Team Scotch or Team Port, although I would have to paint up some coastal command units to base in the appropriate country.
BoomerBill

What's the protocol for creating a Canadian Club? Do we just come up with an avatar and announce intentions?
Azrael

we really just need an avatar and were good to go
LcdrSwizzle

"Canadian Club" avatar? It may be trademarked ... lol.

BoomerBill

I wasn't thinking of using the bottle, just the typeface for the words "Canadian Club".
Canadians would "get it" and non-Canadians, well, we could tell them.

Ok, what are the avatar requirements and what have we decided on as the symbology?

My vote is clear: use the actual Canadian Club typeface, which is available as a one-line or two-line option. Here are links:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Canadian_Club_Whisky_logo.svg
and
http://all-free-download.com/free...r-logo/canadian_club_1_76837.html (just drop the word "Classic" from the second version)

I think everyone can agree on a corvette in the avatar -- doesn't have to be the HMCS Haida, but that seems like a gimme. I've seen a few votes for the Mosquito as the air arm represented. I'd argue that it is not in any of the three game systems, while the Hawker Hurricane (more of which were made in Canada than the Mosquito) is. Or, one might see the Lancaster as a worthy rep of the air group. Lastly, hardly anyone would disagree with using the RAM Kangaroo as the land icon.

Haida's not a corvette, she's a British made Tribal-class destroyer, if we're looking for a Corvette I'd suggest Petrolia or One if the Flowers.

Oh, so sorry! I was thinking HMCS Sackville and typed Haida!
With so many crazed Sackville collectors out there, it has to be the Sackville.

And I had previously indicated support for the Amtrak, since it is roughly the equivalent of the Buffalo, used so frequently by Canadians in clearing the Scheldt.

No worries Bill, I'm also a bit concerned about using the canadian club logo so transparently, it is after all, heavily trademarked. Could we use the font to write "Club Canada" instead?

I have been looking for the actual typeface used -- can't seem to find it. Several sources suggest the cursive script was a personal flourish of one of the Walker ancestors, and it just stuck.
The big issue for copyright violation in Canada is the reason for use: if we are using it to make money, there will be a letter from a lawyer. If not, action is likely not to be taken. (Which is why you see the Dos Equis guy everywhere in parodies, FB posts, etc.)
But if the Forum thought that the Big Lawyers still might come after us for an avatar used by a couple dozen people in an obscure fan forum, then just use write Canadian Club in a demi-bold script with the suitable flourishes over the two capital Cs. In Microsoft Office, there's an Edwardian Script that would do the job.
And, Club Canada just doesn't have the same flavour (ha-ha).

Canadian Club is owned by Beam Suntory (distillers of deerfield Illinois) and the forum is owned in Australia I think? Which muddies the waters of copyright a bit (it definitely eliminates Canadian copyright law from the equation). Also the Dos Equis guy is covered under the parody rules for fair use, which would not be relevant in this situation. Regardless, if this isn't a concern for the group or the forum then who am I to be worried. As for the avatar I have a few dozen script fonts, one is likely close.
Azrael

We could always just do the canadian flag the way it was during ww2

if anyone can cartoon

an angry beaver either clubbing (AKA seal clubbing not going to a dance party) or chomping on a u-boat with a couple big beaver teeth would be appropriate
