New AAM player, question about aircraft and mapsHi all, new member and new AAM player, some of you might know me as TK-1138 on the Wizards of the Coast forums. I had a question about aircraft... what exactly dos speed A mean? How many spaces can the aircraft move?
Also... where can I get maps... all I have right now are the 1939-1945 starter maps.
Finally... is the Expanded Rules book the same as the rules in the 39-45 starter or is it different?
Thanks in advance,

The aircraft don't have speed. They can be placed anywhere you want. You can buy maps from ebay. Check the links on the right side of this page. The expanded rules are a non-free set of rules that WoTC released some time ago. They are more advanced than the advanced rules of the 1939-45 starters. I don't think they are worth buying.

"Speed A" just means that the mini is an aircraft. Aircraft are a seperate class than land units, they are placed at any spot on the board during your "Air Flight" phase, after the Movement and before the Assault phase. Once you and your opponent have finished placing aircraft, it is the "Airstrike" phase where you roll your attacks.
You can get new official maps by purcasing "Map Packs" such as the North Africa and Eastern Front map packs. You can also find some downloadable maps on these froums if you search around the AAM General, and AAM Scenario sections.
The Expanded rules, as far as I know, add new maps to the game.
And finaly: to the forumini!
EDIT: Dang ND, you beat me to it

So basically, aircraft can't move once they've been deployed?

They are deployed each turn.

Sorry if I'm being slow... does that mean you deploy new aircraft each turn or you move them to one new space each turn?

You move them to a new space each turn.

They are placed on the board, then taken off in the Casualty phase. If they are not destroyed or disrupted they are placed back on during the Airflight phase again.

I disagree. The Expanded rules are a great addition to the standard rules and they come with some great 3" maps too.

Are the downloadable maps smaller than the ones you would buy? Considering you are printing on 8.5x11" paper?

The ones you would buy would be printed on better, larger paper, but if you are talking about hex sizes, they should be about the same.

So you would be printing different parts of the map on several sheets of paper or are they just smaller maps?

The maps that I was able to find at WOTC Axis and Allies sight are set up were you are printing two halves of one map. The Hexes are set up for the old set not the new one. However my group likes to use the old maps because they allow you to have more land without taking up so much space.

If you are using US standard 8.5 x 11 paper, then you will probably be printing multiple parts of one map
