Midway

Built around the Midway battle. This can be a two player or four player game.

The two strike fleet Commanders try to nuetralize the opposing strike fleet.

Additionally The IJN CDR must land at least two infantry units on midway.
The US CDR must stop them from landing.

IJN:
Carrier Strike Force   (Admiral Nagumo):
CV Akagi (with full air complement)
CV Kaga (with full air complement)
CV Hiryu (with full air complement)
CV Soryu (with full air complement)
2 Battleships
2 Heavy Cruisers
1 Light cruiser
11 Destroyers
1 Submarine I-168

Close Support, Midway landing Group    (Admiral Kurita):
CA Kumano
CA Suzuya
CA Mogami
CA Mikuma
Kinai Maru x 8

USN:
TF-16    (Admiral Raymond Spruance):
CV-6 Enterprise (with full air complement)
CV-8 Hornet (with full air complement)
5 Heavy Cruisers
1 Light Cruiser
9 Destroyers

TF-17    (Admiral Frank Fletcher):

6 Destroyers

Midway island air wing = 1 x wildcat squadron and 1 x B-25 squadron
Midway island has 1 x PT Boat Squadron

Midway Island  Gun Emplacements has a 3 range 5-die gun attack each turn.  The statistics are 5 armor/10 vital armor /5 hull (AA 3). It also has a Landing Field, the capacity to support 2 air wings of any type like a carrier.  It has 5-armor/10 vital armor/5 hull (AA3)

IJN Attack Fleet CDR (Admiral Nagumo) wins by inflicting more damage on the enemy attack fleet then sustaining himself.

IJN landing Fleet CDR (Admiral Kurita) wins by landing at least 2 infantry units on Midway.

Stategic IJN victory if both victory conditions are met

USN Attack Fleet CDR (Admiral Raymond Spruance) wins by inflicting more damage on the enemy attack fleet then sustaining himself.

USN island Defense Fleet CDR (Admiral Frank Fletcher) wins by preventing any enemy infantry units on Midway.

Stategic USN victory if both victory conditions are met

Looks good!  This looks like quite the battle.  And large too.  What size map is this designed for?

Actualy we used a (blue) sheet with 3" hexes penned on it - and threw the sheet across two folding tables.

Replecated the battle quite well I think.  There was far action with the air squadrons.  Gunnery ranged action with different fleet engagements. and close in action with the PT Boat squadron and the invasion force.

This was a great game

Who won?
RANGERDANE

"Admiral Nagumo" won by inflicting more damage on the US fleet then sustaining himself.

"Admiral Frank Fletcher" (AKA Texas Archer) won by preventing a japanese invasion.

it was a fun game

I am running {The Battle of Midway, Part 2, c9June1942} at a local convention. Rapier2009.
Here is the con's link: http://www.rapiercon.com/
Here are the details of the game I plan to run:

Description:      It is June 1942.  The Japanese refuse to retreat after the historic Battle of Midway on 6 June 1942 even through they lost 4 CVs.  Admiral Yamamoto is determined to destroy the USA's Pacific Fleet and take Midway Island.  They gather their BBs, BCs, Cruisers and Destroyers to invade and take the island.  the two Japanese CVLs near the Aleutian Islands during the historic carrier battle, rush south and get sunk in a second air battle, but before going down, their planes damage and drive away the USS Enterprise & Hornet.  Shocked
While this second carrier battle is going on, most of the USA's Pacific Fleet's BBs & other surface vessels move to intercept the Japanese.  The two forces clash near Midway in the biggest surface action since the battle of Jutland over a quarter of a century earlier.  Cool
Players can bring their own miniatures or use the GM's.

I wish I had a mini of the IJN Nagato...

Also, Fletcher should get a PBY or two, for a suggested revision.

Nice scenario!

My son and I played our version of Midway about a month ago.  I will see if I can dig the units and piece together an AAR.

We also incorporated several of the house rules (mostly ones modified from those proposed by Afilter).  The major change we used was the aircraft ranges.  With the largely increased size of the board (we used several maps put together) adding ranges made the game seem a bit more realistic.

The most important thing about any scenario is too have fun, and it seems that you did--kudos on the good work!

This looks like a really interesting scenario.  You should post the full rules and details in its own thread and any AARs/Playtest notes.  I would love to read about it!
