So this is partially in response to the RB post on Long Distance stuff and partially just me not being sure on this SA.
How exactly does Loiter work?
Does a unit with loiter stay on the board even when the rest of the air forces are returned?

A unit with loiter goes back to the land airbase during the air return phase. The only difference is that it doesn't pick up a re-arming counter, while other units going back to the land airbase do.
