Leviathans (the game)

Was wondering if anyone heard anything about this:

http://monstersinthesky.com/

I saw poster for it at Gencon but no actual demos or anything (was hoping to see some ships but alas!)....Clearly it's right up my alley as well as a few other folks that hang around the WaS forum.

Anyways just wanted to share.

Indeed it is.  However I'm unsure if the minis are prepainted or not.  As I said I'll I've ever seen was the website and a bunch of silk screened posters at Gencon (the artwork was awesome).
Duck Crusader

No, they're not prepaints. Yes, it looks promising, but it'll have to be something really special to knock Aeronef out of it's hold on that niche.

Someone posted the website for this game in the lounge area months ago. I bookmarked the site and go back to it periodically. I haven't seen anything released yet. The artwork looks cool.

I noticed that they are in "Alpha" testing at select game stores (check their website for the list). Is anybody in one of the cities?

Unbeleivable, my cousin makes my WAS ships fly in the sky to battle his Star Destroyers, guess hes got some historical background with his idea.
Duck Crusader

It's called 'Space Battleship Yamato cycle' and starts with 'Starblazers'.

I have actually been in frequent communication with the folks that are designing the game.

The average battleship will be about 5" made of plastic (for now, they did say they could/would change the material if they feel needed)

As of mid September from my last email they were uncertain of the release date, first is was suppose to be 4th quarter 2009, now it is 1st quarter 2010 is the expected release date.

As for whether or not it is pre-painted they say that is up in the air. They have had a lot of requests for pre-painted miniatures and know that battle tech will release a few pre painted minis some time next year.

I hope the delay means pre painted minis.

As for success of the game I am more than confident it will knock out Aeronef in popularity in its early life considering how many of the major distributor have been asking for details on the game.

I'm really pulling for prepainted, but the fact that they have decided to change printing companies to over seas gives me some hope of prepainted minis.
Duck Crusader

I'm actually pulling the other way. pre-paints suck, even the best ones.

compared to the hand painted some people out there can do yeah. But I don't have skill near that.

Pre-painted would be best for me and would be the only way I got into the game. Too much time to paint, and can't make them look good. And the minis I have painted get chipped, and yes I do use coats to protect them and special boxes. Dropping them on the ground is the worse.

I can see it from both sides...at this point my personal preference would be a pre-paint, but not CMG.  Then they are ready to go without the time of painting (a plus for me right now).  I would even be interested in trying a fantasy game along these lines if it did not involve painting.  That way people would have the option to repaint and not feel like they are ruinging a CMG unit or play with it the way it is.  Similar to how WoW planes are done.

This weekend I won an auction with AAM and bunch of flames of war stuff, some new in the package.  As cool as it looks I just do not have the time, so it will all be re-sold.

It does sound kind of neat.

from the way it sounds like from the designer it will be buy what you want (NOT random boosters)

I think I read something about a fleet of 5 ships for starters than additional ships as singles.

Though keep in mind this all could be changed.

Though it would sound good to me depending on the price, rules, etc.

I was reading some snippets of the rules, there will be air torpedoes.  Razz

I would call that a missile Smile
Duck Crusader

Well, if they're pre-paints I won't be interested myself. WAS is the only one of those I still play.

May I ask what you're looking to resell (FOW stuff) as I might be interested.
