Kamikaze Swarm - 200 Pts

I've had some success with this build, and variations on it.  I've also had my butt kicked, just recently.   Embarassed

Looks like most of the success will be determined by long lance rolls.

Here is what I do: Take 8 Kamikazes and 3 Zekes.

I would go with:

Mushashi - 66
Shokaku - 20
Nachi - 19
Yahagi -14
Isokaze - 11
3 x Atkisuki - 30
4 x Zeke - 24
I-26 - 16
Total = 200 pt's and forget the Kamikaze's

Put the Akit's with Shokaku, Nachi and Yahagi for air defence. The Iso with Mushashi. Then put the I-26 in F zone then you can move her and fire on turn 1.

for really I find that kamikaze's were used when SET II first came out but not anymore because for 3 points you could get half a Zeke or something else (like more LL) but Kamikaze's tend to be wasted points because all you have to do is abort them and they die....

I still like them for filling in those last 3 points in a fleet that nothing else can fit in.  I consider them more of a luxury than a necessity for my fleets.

I've tried to use them as cheap replacements for any Air I know will be splashed.  The basic idea is this:

You have 2 Judy's a Kate and Zeke that attack a sector.  Turn 1, you get 3 AC attacking.  But then one of your Judy's goes down in flames, so next turn, you can only attack w/ 2 AC.  So your attack is progressivly weaker.

If you bring a few Kamimazes, hopefully one or two will be ready to fill in for that splashed Judy.  So you can still attack with 3 AC.  If the Kami is splashed, at least your Judy has one less AA roll to deal with.  If not, you might do some additional damage with it.    If the AA rolls are bad, you might even get in a few licks.

I usually pair the bigger Ships up with Destroyers and keep a Fighter over each pair. Musashi with Akitsuki. Shokaku with Suzutsuki. Yahagi with Hamakaze. The Isokaze, Maikaze, and Nowaki flank the pairs, hunt Subs, or go after objectives. Shokaku stays back. Musashi blasts everything in her way as she goes after my opponent's Flagship. Speaking of Flagships, little Yahagi provides +4 initiative all by herself. Once she goes, there's still Musashi or Shokaku at +1 for either one.

Once I win initiative, I can send my available Kamikaze after targets of opportunity. I've been known to send them all out at once on the second or third turn. Like the Long Lance Torpedoes, success for Kamikaze depends a lot on the luck of the dice. They're usually shot to pin-wheels and sparks, but I've vitalled many a Battleship and Carrier, even so. In one memorable game, I sank both the Enterprise and Washington on the same turn with lucky Kamikaze attacks. Pretty much game over, right there. Ah, that was nice! I sure wish I could do that again.   Very Happy
