Just played BritanniaSo, I received the board game Britannia as a gift last Christmas, and figured that before another holiday season arrived, I should get it out. I've played a few solo games now and I've gotta say I really like it. I don't have a huge history in board wargames, and it's really refreshing taking a step up from Risk and the like. Each player controls a handful of different 'nations' that either emerged in or invaded the British Isles between the Roman invasion in the first century and the Norman invasion a millennia later. Anyway, its fun, not least because I now have a handle on English geography and have developed an interest in this period's history. The new edition that I got was from Fantasy Flight Games, the Wings of War people, and I'm really impressed with the map (big), the counters (cardboard, but sturdy) and the rest of the components as well as the nice instruction booklet which has lots of pictures and examples which made it easy to figure out to play even by myself. Anyone else play it?

I own it, though I haven't played in close to two years. When I did play, I noticed it works best with four players. I tend to play the "yellow" factions, so I can be the Romans. The problem with the Romans is that you get to rack up a ton of victory points early in the game, then get quite a bit less as the game goes on. But hey, you get Arthur, so you automatically win on the Moral Highground rule. XD

I have the old AH version. It's very fun and works well solitaire.

Yeah, I've read about the play with four players, and I'd like to do that of course. But having only me around I was impressed with how well my solo games went. You can practically play each nation individually, which I suppose is a bit different from the strategy of playing a color, but still fun. Anyway, it's a good game, the only downside being that to really play it you'll need four players and four hours.
