Infantry Stats Guidelines

When we start making units, we're going to follow these guidelines:

1.  An infantry piece should represent a fireteam of 4-5 men.

2.  A commander should normally represent a platoon level leader or a higher level commander who is directly intervening in the action.  The piece would include the commander and 2-3 accompanying soldiers.

3.  A crewed heavy weapon should represent the weapon and its 3-4 man crew.  In the case of an antitank rifle or light machinegun, the piece represents 1-2 soldiers in addition to the crew.

4.  For point value of soldier-infantry:

    A.  One Point:  A truly dismal piece with little chance of survival and only a small chance of harming a regular infantryman.

    B.  Two Points:  Generally, this piece would have a defense lower than 4, attack values less than 8/5 and/or a crippling SA.
Example:  Fortress Defender or Kuomintang Infantry

    C.  Three Points:  The benchmark for fire teams equipped with bolt-action rifles.  Defense should be 4 and attack values 8/5 or 8/6.  The piece should have an average Close Assault.  Any additional Special Abilities should be very marginal or situational.
    Example:  Mauser 98k
SMG units with a high short range attack and limited range would also belong here.
    Example:  PPSh-41

    D.  Five Points:  A five point infantry-soldier would have superior attack values, a bonus to defense, better than average Close Assault and a significant Special Ability.
    Example:  Wehrmacht Veteran

    E.  Seven Points:  Truly elite soldiers fall in this range since they would have exceptional attack values, defense 5, better than average Close Assault and a powerful Special Ability or Abilities.
    Example:  SSPG or Ranger

Eight points and higher should be reserved for paratroopers and other highly-trained select forces.

Will you give Cmdrs a Close Assault ability?. In this scale (4-5 men) I propose that only elite unit Cmdrs (Paras, mountain, etc.) should have Close Assault (albeit lower) since they lead through example.

Also, since the infantry minis represent 4-5 men shouldn't you raise the transport capabilities of vehicles (2 Soldiers for a Sdkfz 251)? Not for every soldier that is.

I Agree that Close Assault may have to be limited a lot. Let's wait for the original author of this list to reply. I guess it's Sharpe.

And units like the Jeep and Kubelwagon should keep Transport 1. I also think most tanks and tank destroyers should have something like Exposed Transport 1.

Just a tip, as I am not participating:

- "normal" infantry representing 8-12 men
- "small" infantry like AT rifles, MG's, mortars and commanders half of that number. SdKfz250, Jeeps and similar vehicles would be allowed to transport only these units.
Otherwise you will have to overcome some logical obstacles of infantry transport, price comparison and organisation, like where to unload 4 units from a truck or how to fit 2 of them on a tank.

From Wiki:
- In U.S. infantry units, rifle platoons are generally made up of four nine-man squads (three rifle squads and one weapons squad). In a Marine regiment, rifle platoons usually consist of three rifle squads of 13 men each, usually led by a Sergeant. Tank platoons consist of four tanks. Platoons are organised into a company, which typically consists of three, four or five platoons.

= While making one soldier as a representant of 5 men, you will need 9 teams for just one platoon and 27 soldiers for one company. More impressive, but more annyoing to move them all...

I agree, I would still prefer squad (10 men) size units as opposed to gire teams (5 men) for many of the same reasons.
RAEVSKI

this would also fix the ground scale issue. as 20 men could defend 200m frontage, where as 10 men couldn't.
Defence 3/3 mortars and supports have 5-6 men
Defence 4/4 inf should be approx 10
Therefore plattoon would consist of 5-6 models instead of 10-12

It looks like I am heading to the store to pick up some FOW small bases to start making platoons. Has anybody cut the AAM minis off of their bases before?

Only out of spite.

Close Assault should probably go with "fighting" commanders (NCOs and officers from elite units) rather than "supervising" commanders.

Yes, it's relatively easy, even with uneven bases. Use some thin razor blade.
