Indian Ocean, Crossroads of the World:
The Indian Ocean is a harsh mistress and the highway of the seven seas, a hunting ground for Axis and Ally alike. No great battleship duel or Carrier contest took place in these waters. It was the coalface battle ground - far from home and merciless. The Indian warrior is tough, resourceful and above all defiant. Er challenge from the low ground and revel in the glory it brings... Announcement

In order to bring club RAAFFF up to a theater club standard:

The club will focus on chiefly Indian ocean ops.

The club will roll ABDA & TF74 into our core roster.

The club will have further options based on the years of ops.

The club will develop a axis core list.

I think that covers most bases, we can play either side against Atlantic, Med and SodaPop. Everyone forgive me if i take some historical liberties with the Axis

Which exact geographical area is this club covering? Also, I assume that now it is a theater and not special cause club.
Btw, why don't you just call it ClubIndianOcean?

If I may ND, Club RAAFFF is unique in that it is both an "Activist Club" (forgive my teminology) and a Theatre Club. RAAFFF took part of both the first 2 seasons of the original Club League as one of the first "Multinational" clubs. For this reason I have kept making mention of them as a Theatre Club in our recent discussions.

I would like very much to see them participate in the Theatre League to represent the Indian Ocean and surrounds theatre of operations. There will be overlap with Club SoPac, and I am unsure how to properly define the actual border considering they use mainly Australian units that would be based on the East Coast. Dutch units that would be based at Surabaya and British units from Tincomalee or perhaps Singapore. Limited knowlege of this theatre not withstanding.

If they would like to relaunch with a different name they may certainly do so, being as though they were originaly an activist club that configured themselves so they could participate in the League they may not wish to go down that path however.

Or they can have both maybe? E.g. Flakstruk leading the competitive ClubIndianOcean arm and RAEVSKI the activist RAAFFF arm of the club.

I'm happy to comply with what ever is the clubhouses best interest. Raevskis work in setting the club up deserves to be recognized too.
NeuralDream

Cool. In that way, I can add both a RAAFFF avatar for the special cause field in your profile and a ClubIndianOcean avatar for the theater field in your profile.

If you kept them combined, the avatar would appear twice on your profile and it wouldn't be clear who is member of the club to play in the Indian Ocean theater and who to support the inclusion of Aussie airforce in WAS Surprised.

The map will include your ClubIndianOcean avatar when you make it Smile.

Agreed, perhaps Flak may want to put this to Raev in the light of the new configuration of the Theatre League Clubs. I too am concerned with what Raev thinks at this point, with the full understanding that RAAFFF is his baby.

I will keep an eye on this thread to watch developments, no doubt the door is wide open for a Club Indian Ocean or perhaps a Club ABDA not sure, but either way we should strive to add them into the League somehow.

What, that they finally decide to take ABDA a month after we formed? Again, go back to previous threads where RAEVSKI himself says that RAAFFF did not play ABDA, but whatever.

That's a really cool solution! It keeps the RAAFFF activism alive and gives us another well-defined Theatre Club with Bull's new Club Atlantic. I like it a lot! (Nice Avatar too, Brigman!)

No not finaly, they always used ABDA fleets P71, Raevski himself told me so back when the club was formed, if my word is not good enough for you please see here:

Quote:
Post subject: 1939 RAN Declares war

On Sept 2 Australia declared war onGermany.

Hence the RAAFFF wishes to declare war on the KM Klub

any wish to take on the RAN and friends.

Historically Australia Released Crusiers to Chase German Raiders to Support the UK.

Therefore I will use ABDA builds
Exception 1939 only
Land Based aircraft for me
and No BB's for me

Anyone want to take the Challenge?

The above is a direct quote from Raevski in this thread:

http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/about20101.html

Shortly after that I volunteered to make him a poster for his Club HQ that never got started but here is the thread with that poster in it:

http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/about20167.html

Now surely if he did not use ABDA forces then he would have told me so then, as a obvious mis-representation of his club. I dont know what threads you are talking about P71 that is causing the confusion. But as far as I'm concerned Raev has always based RAAFFF on mostly Australians and British forces as part of ABDA task forces.

Perhaps Raevski himself would like to settle this debate since it seems he has allegedly told you something else than he has told me.

Cheers all Very Happy

Dan
RAEVSKI

My aim for this Club was to use generally historical builds while protesting that there are NO Aussie aircraft in WAS and AAM.
Australian navy fought in a lot of theatres.
Atlantic- HMAS Canberra was in the Atlantic when war broke out.
Mediterean- An Aussie Squadron was sent to the Med immediately (HMAS Sydney, Stuart, Vendetta, Waterhen, Voyager, Vampire and Several Squadrons of RAAF mostly in Kittyhawks)
North Sea- Under UK Command (RAAF Squadrons)
South Pacific- TF74 the focus is on the Aussie Squadron, USN Crusiers and DD's are available to go under Aussie command.
Indian Ocean- HMAS Adelaide, Sydney on Raider hunting alongside Dutch and UK vessels. The HMS Hermes was being escorted by HMAS Vampire when she was sunk. (Hermes was offered to Australia but the manpower shortages were a issue before she was sunk)
Indonesia- ABDA type builds mostly focusing on HMAS Perth and Dutch builds (Wotc please give me HMAS Yarra)
angryhydralisk

Hmmm if I may put in my 2c
This club is the oddest of the "official" clubs because it doesn’t represent either a nation or a Theatre it represents an air force
I think maybe this should be made into one of the two categories’ we have going maybe club Indian Ocean or even club Australia
danaussie

Ok, well since we are forming a Theatre Club League Raev, there is most definitely an opening for the Indian Ocean theatre of operations to be represented in whatever form.

Since your club started out using ABDA forces this seems to put you into this theatre of operations, so I would like to make this suggestion based on the thoughts of ND and other members of the club house.

RAAFFF may stay on as a Special Cause Club while its active Club Theatre League arm be formed as Club Indian Ocean or Club Ceylon as has been suggested by some other members. This club would therefore have two Avatars one for the Special Cause Club and one for the Theatre Club League.

If this sounds reasonable then could the Club be renamed and a HQ started, I believe you already have the membership requirement covered as both the members to RAAFFF and whatever new members that you may recieve for your combat arm count as one and the same in terms of Club Indian Ocean or whatever you decide to call it.

Map of Theatres of Operations by ND

As far as I can tell the black lined area will be your theatre of operations, and all units that served in this reagion may therefore be used by your club.

Also if you want to hand over the Presidency of your combat arm of Club RAAFFF (Club Indian Ocean) to Flakstruk while you remain the head of Club RAAFFF Special Cause Group then that will also be acceptable to the Club House, that will be between you and your Club members to discuss.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

The map is spot on, a touch of overlap with SOPAC but you get that.

I've done most of my research on wiki so its pretty rough. There are a few more units I want to Chase up and then we have to work out the organization of those units.

On the RAAFFF/C(lub)IND(ian) issue, Raevski is boss till he says otherwise
RAEVSKI

I will accept for Theatre purposes only Indian Ocean, even though the bulk of the fighting was in the Med and SWPA
Flakstruk

We can challenge into those theaters I suppose

Thanks mate. Updating now

I have a question:Can you use Italian, Vichy French and German units together all in one fleet? Also, can I use Japanese air with the Euro axis?
Flakstruk

Yes, you can combine German, Vichy and Italian forces.

You cannot unfortunately use Japanese air with them - unless you agree to.play unlimited with your opponent.

All Axis Subs can be used in any fleet but if you do so, you can't use Submerged Shot as axis subs were under orders not to fire on enemy submarines.

Fiat CR.42

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_CR-42#Specifications_.28CR.42.29

This fighter served  in the Indian Ocean theater, It had a similar armament to the Folgore , but was about 150 km slower. On the plus side most of the pilots of this fighter were experienced and had the upper hand in dogfights until the the RAF fighter pilots figured it was best to dive from above and attack them.

Possible custom card:
4-5 points
1939

Gunnery: 2
AA: 6
Armor:4/7/1

SAs's:

Escort -
If this unit is in the same sector as a friendly Bomber, enemy Fighters get -1 on each attack die when making Antiair attacks against that Bomber.

Experienced Pilot 1 -
During the first turn of the game this fighter rolls one extra attack die.

Interceptor -
If there are no enemy Fighters in the same sector as this unit, this unit rolls one extra attack die when making Antiair attacks against enemy Bombers.

Action Report

I regret to inform the club of a loss to a Russian/Frozen Seas excursion commanded by Brigman. The counter force sent was ineffectual and shot poorly against deftly handled smokers.

It was a great game Flak, the dice just didn't like you this time out.  Having Arkhangelsk vital a Rodney was certainly unexpected! Shocked

I really like Ark despite all of its shortcomings. Good game you two!
Brigman

Flak,

Doing a bit of research, I think there are some IJN BBs you can use.

Kirishima: As part of the Third Battleship Division, Kirishima participated in many of the Imperial Japanese Navy's early actions in 1942, providing support for the invasion of the Dutch East Indies and in the Indian Ocean raid of April 1942.

Related:

The Indian Ocean raid (known in Japan as Operation C) was a naval sortie by the Fast Carrier Strike Force of the Imperial Japanese Navy from 31 March-10 April 1942 against Allied shipping and bases in the Indian Ocean. It was an early engagement of the Pacific campaign of World War II. The Japanese under Chuichi Nagumo compelled the Allied (largely Royal Navy) forces to retreat to East Africa, leaving the Japanese unopposed in the Indian Ocean.

The Japanese force, commanded by Admiral Chuichi Nagumo, had six carriers: Akagi, Ryūjō, Hiryū, Sōryū, Shōkaku, and Zuikaku.

A total of 4 Battleships were listed as part of this force.  Kirishima was one; I'm researching the others, but I believe Battleship Division Three included all four Kongo-class. They were used to escort the carriers because they could keep up, unlike the "slow girls" (Fuso, Yamashiro, Ise, Hyuga, Nagato, Mutsu).

I'd also say the CIND could use the Elite Zero and the "New" Kate (Type 97) from Set VI.
Brigman

Further research shows: The Third Battleship Division included all four Kongos - Kongo, Kirishima, Haruna and Hiei.  (Hiei doesn't yet have an official card, but counts towards class limits - I usually double Kongo or Kirishima for her).

Nagato later joined the Third Battleship Division, but I don't believe she took part in the Indian Ocean Raid with the Kido Butai.  I'll dig further. Wink

Total IJN strength for the raid:

6 carriers
4 battleships
7 cruisers
19 destroyers
5 submarines
350 aircraft

Congrats on the win Flak and thanks for the game!
Flakstruk

Finally, Oh finally a win and it took me 2weeks to post here. Good game Brigs, look forward to our next clash
Brigman

Always man! Smile  Congrats on a well-deserved win!

First glance at TP, I think CIO will get

Both Aussie and all dutch units

Have to check on the Esperos class for the red sea flotilla
Brigman

Shirakumo, a Fubuki-class DD, was present at the Indian Ocean Raid, so you guys should add Fubuki to your roster (DDs by class participation, not individual ships).

Also, Fubuki herself was part of the occupation of Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal, so it should be good in any case. Wink

Hiryu was part of the Fast Carrier fleet that conducted the raid, and so should be added.

I'll let you know if I come across anything else!

Clubhouse is looking good flak Very Happy

Were you ever able to get someone to help you out with a banner for the HQ?  If not, ask ND if he can take the avatar logo and resize it to be used as the clubhouse banner, that would be sufficient.

It also looks like you've rounded out your fleets a bit.  One question, are you planning on including any of the TP (there a quite a few that will fir into the CIO scope of operations) and it may need a little more tweaking with the restructuring of Club SoPac (Club Pacific).  Let me know how its going and keep up the good work sir!
