Excellent Spotting

"...if another friendly ship makes a gunnery attack against an enemy ship, this unit rolls one extra attack die when making Gunnery attacks against that enemy ship this turn."

Given the simulataneous nature of attacking in W@S and a strict interpretation of "another" is it possible for two ships with this SA to "spot" for each other?

If, for instance, Dunkerque and Richelieu where to both fire at the same (soon to be consumed) target each could justifiably say that "another friendly ship" was making an attack against its target.

Is there something in the rules or errata that says another ship (presumably one without excellent spotting) is required to instigate this SA?

I see your point, but we have always played it that another ship has to fire first(no bonus).

In you example what would you do if the Dunkerque fired with the bonus and scored a critical hit.  Would the Richelieu then be required not o fire as well (not fire) since you used the bonus?

I think the intention is one ship fires at a target and then all other ships with the SA get the bonus when firing at that target.  Since you do not have to declare attacks until they are made giving the first ship the bonus would not be possible since another ship has not fired at the Target ship.

I agree with you afilter.  I know that they say things are simultaneous, but smoke for example, makes that untrue.  If it was simultaneous you'd have to declare all attacks before rolling them and then use them regardless of the outcome of the previous ones.  The simultaneous part is really the application of the damage, not the shooting itself.

That said, it's always a possibility to use a secondary attack, from Richelieu for example, to trigger the SA for Dunkerque's attack, which would then trigger the SA for Rich's mains.

Hmm.....that would be tricky, but tough to argue against. Wink

I tend to use those battleships secondaries (and in Richies case Terties) for that very purpose.
