Empty Victory?Ok, folks. Check this one out. Ran into an interesting situation at our last tourney. Looking for a good ruling using pg. 7 of Advanced Rules and pg. 1 of Clarifications doc.
200 point game
Player 1: 199 point navy
Player 2: 200 point navy
Throughout the course of the game, Player 1 captures two objectives and Player 2 captures none. At the end of the last turn, Player 2 destroys all of Player 1's fleet. Player 1 destroyed 123 points of Player 2's fleet.
Player 1: 323 victory points
Player 2: 299 victory points
Despite the fact that Player 1 lost his entire navy, he still won by total points. Is this correct?

Yeah, if you're over the victory point threshold, then you're over it, the rule book says nothing about having a navy left unless you're resolving a stalemate with neither side above the victory line.

Did you factor in the 1-objective bonus for destroying all the other side's ships?

He had to have or he wouldn't have been able to get to 299 points, by my count.

sinking the entire opponents fleet is worth one extra objective worth as much as the normal objectives in the game and loosing all surface ships with sea control is an automatic loss regardless how many points you get before.

I am wondering what happened to the last objective...

Oooh, good spot there Richter. I only read the stuff about the End of Turn phase and from the clarification.

Holy crap! That's it - thanks, man. All of us local gamers passed right over that part about the end of the phase. That's what you get after looking through the rules so quickly EVERY time.
Another sound and key point for the rules that makes sense. I was really worried about that game's outcome.

I tried using this on my buddy last night. My theory was he could take all the objectives he wanted, I just would sink his fleet then retake them and "play" until I ended up with more points.
A round limit would solve this problem.
Then again, we play with secondary bonus's like double points for carrier kills and all that.

Nice find, but I have very rarely ever seen this situation come up. In order to have no units left, you would have to not only be out of surface ships, but also aircraft and subs. I have always found that one side always has something left, even if it's a lonely Sea Hurricane sitting at the land airbase and refusing to fly.

You can't retake objectives. Once one side gets it, it's gone forever.
