Defensive Armament

If the allies send in a b-25 to bomb the Shokaku and i also have a zero in the area and i attack with the Zero first, if my attack fails when Shokaku flaks the B-25 does it get the defensive armament ability against Sokaku's aa as well since i attacked it with a fighter first?
NeuralDream

Unfortunately yes, as stupid as it sounds.

From the FAQ

If the Emily is attacked by a Fighter (during Air Defense), it receives the +2 armor for the duration of the entire turn. Does the new, increased armor value also in effect against Air Defense attacks from ships.
A: Yes.
Europa1942

thanks man
Stormhawk4107

along those lines.

Does defensive and light defense armament, as seen in new set, only apply to armor or Vital armor?  It only states to armor.

I figure the guns make it harder to line up a shot since your taking fire from the rear guns  but it can't make the aircraft frame itself tougher  so if you score a vital hit it still dies.
NeuralDream

Not vital, only basic armour.

In terms of your interpretation of the physical situation, keep in mind that we are talking about squadrons and not individual aircraft.
wilt57

Defensive Armament affects only the armor, the vital armor remains the same.
Damn ND, you're quick!  Smile

Thanks for the prompt reply!

I keep forgetting while the mini only shows 3 planes tops we are dealing with 15+ planes a squadron chasing each other down, at least for the fighter classes.
What was the average number of planes to patrol bomber squad?  Or was it relative to type and nation?
Figure the Sparviero and JU-88 probably traveled in bigger packs than Emily's
jfkziegler

Theoretically in War at Sea, a squadron of fighters, dive bombers, or torpedo bombers is 25 planes, and a squadron of patrol bombers is 3 planes.
Stormhawk4107

Well that's better than what Battlestations Pacific gives you in that Pc game. 3 planes per fighter type   1 per patrol lol.

A related question:
Does 'Defensive Armament' come into play after the fighter attacks the bomber or when the fighter declares the attack against the bomber?  As in, does the bomber get the bonus against the fighter's attack?
jfkziegler

Yes, the bomber gets the bonus against the fighter's attack.

What if a RE 2001 CB uses 'Mission Selection' to count as a Dive Bomber and then uses its AA attack against say... a Helldiver?  Two questions arise.

First: Can it make its AA attack when in 'Dive Bomber' mode or its bomb attack when in 'Fighter' mode?

Second: If it can attack while a Dive Bomber, then defensive armament does not come into play since the target isn't being attacked by a 'Fighter', correct?

Solid question Asbestos.  As written, the answer to both questions is yes.  Based on answers about mission selection on the barracuda, I'd say the first one is likely to stay 'yes' even when people start asking these on the official forums for clarification.

The second one, I think, is likely to still be possible too since doing some sort of errata for a single card is the kind of thing that really starts putting length in a clarifications document, but I think that most of the people on here are really going to hate anyone who does this to them, accusations of rules lawyering sure to follow.
