Creativity Challenge no6: Make a custom card

Until Sunday night Pacific time.


Either AAM or WAS.

It must be a real, historical unit that was in service during world war 2.

The card may already exist as an official or custom card. Yours must be at least a bit different.

You'll be judged on both appearance, historical accuracy and elegance of the S.A.s that you choose.

If the winning card is historically accurate, it will be part of the forumini series of cards (either AAM or WAS).

It must be at most 500x400 pixels.

I'm wondering if it isn't a bit of a short notice... I'll see what I can do, though I can't think of many ships that haven't already been done!

I always thought you liked De Ruyter Wink. It doesn't have to be a new unit.

Yeah, it's pretty much the only Dutch ship with an interesting story behind it. But it's not really deserving of any noteworthy stats or SA's.

At the moment I'm considering doing an Ace U-boat (probably Gunther Prien's U-47) or a Milchküh.

You can submit a card for any unit you want. The unit may have appeared before as custom card or as official card. No problems with that.

how do we tell how big the image is?  If I just make one the same size as your cards (ND) is that fine?

Mine is 443x330 or so, so yes.

You tell the size by right clicking on the image and going to advanced properties, or something like that.

Thanks very much, very little experience with the graphics stuff, but I think I have a cool SA or two in mind.

I may well modify it before the deadline (the SAs in particular), but I don't know if I'll have time.

yeah if I were you I'd dump the Bull of Scapa Flow thing.  That's too magical for many people.  And rather annoying to play against I'd expect.  

"OK your Iowa now has 1 damage and range 3 only."

But I do realise some people may be uncomfortable with this, so I'll probably come up with something else. I already have a couple of ideas...

Well, which one of HHRcz do you prefer?  Very Happy  Wink I would nominate one of the Add-ons Set. If you want one specific, I will choose it.

I decided to do a platoon card for AAM.  Hope that is alright and within the rules of the game.

I'm sure platoon cards are perfectly acceptable.

Here is my entry, its one of my favorites!

Updated card, Please use refresh.

Design Notes:
I like having my custom cards in this orientation, as I use them in conjunction with the original WAS cards.  

Pretty standard use of light blue for the allies for the card background and cost bubble, axis are a pale red.  As a tribute to the original A&A I color code the banner (Ship Name area) for each nation (UK brown, Germany grey, Japan Yellowish etc).  I tried using a dark green like A&A for the US, but it just did not seem right for the Navy.

I wanted some sort of AA like the Hood to capture how she met her fate, fatal flaw seems a bit "harsh" as language so I went with Unlucky Hit.

Very similar guns to other early-war US BB's, a couple points lower than other Pennsylvania class ships due to the SA.

Maybe the version with armor values would be better..

I just realized something on my Kitakami card. It should read:

...make a two dice torpedo attack at up to range 3.

The computer that I am on right now does not have Photoshop, so could I fix it tomorrow when I have access to it?
