I bring news of victory from the south Pacific! Our force of HMS Jamaica, HMS Javelin, the submarine Truculent, and a Lend-Lease Corsair has sunk the enemy's heavy cruiser and destroyer force.

Winner: kid360 CRN/Med
Defeated: Brigman IJN/CFS

It was a really close 50 pt game. He missed victory by one point! However, Club Royal Navy prevailed!

I have come to announce Club Royal Navy's 40th win, again over Brigman of Club IJN. The battleship Warspite and her escorts, Haida and Kent, were on routine patrol off the coast of India with the submarine Truculent and a Barracuda wing screening, as well as Lend-Lease Warhawks flying air cover. All of the sudden, a Japanese battlegroup was spotted, centered around the Yamato class battleship Mushashi. Our salvoes flew from 30,000 yards out, and did not stop until the commander ordered his flagship to retreat. A large destroyer, Terutsuki, lies at the bottom of the sea. We did, however, lose Kent and a squadron of Barracudas to the battleship's gunfire. The result still remains a victory for the Royal Navy, with special commendations to the crew of the Truculent for placing not one, not two, but three torpedoes into Mushashi over the course of 2 salvoes. Victory! God save the King!

Also - I don't think that group information request part of the forum is up to date or even used anymore. Mostly you just post your interest in the Club of your choice, get welcomed in, and add their banner under your name! Smile

Game not even close...a proper stomping of the upstart USN by the RN.  Who says the USN is the best navy! Smile

Seriously, good game Sub.  1942 is still a pretty good year for the USN, and beating any USN fleet sporting two 9/14/5 BBs, three fleet carriers, and 15 aircraft is no small feat.  That's a nasty fleet you got there.

I really wasn't expecting the all out air build again but I decided to go with the fighter cover (which made a big difference over the last match where I brought no fighters) even though the fighters didn't do exceptionally well (however the shipborn AA was better than normal).  I was also going for the sprint fleet which forces the other player to engage or lose objectives which turned out to work rather well in this match.  In our other match, I chose to spread my units out and try to grab objectives, while in this match I sent the majority of my big surface units to engage your surface forces which ended with much better results.  Overall, the combination of of high-speed units (the Renown is becoming one of my favorite units at the moment Very Happy ) and moving as many units as I could to engage your BB's paid off.  Although the AA wasn't splashing any aircraft, I was able to abort enough of them that my surface fleet was still able to make it to the objective line somewhat intact and ready to rumble.  I really like playing the RN but sometimes it's difficult to throw in some curve balls because they don't have many of the interesting SA units like the German's and so on so this was sort of a fleet experiment.  I'll keep messing around with it to see if I can make any improvements.  Either way, good match sir Very Happy  Very Happy

Gentlemen, I have a win to report over Club IJN's Jaybird, 50 pts. It was a great match, and he was an even better opponent. http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/about33052.html

Repulse proved too much for Atago and 2 Bettys, I sank a sub with a Vospers (first time for everything?), and at the end of the day, even though I had accidently brought the wrong Corsair, Jaybird was still fighting to the bitter end. I highly reccomend him as an opponent.

Glory to the British Empire!

I applied to join CRN yesterday - hurray

G'day from Oz, mates. I applied to join Club Royal Navy yesterday! I am still waiting for confirmation so I can proudly display the Club Royal Navy banner.

I am a long time fan of the Royal navy, with many models built, modded, and painted along the way in the 1/1200, 1/4800, and 1/6000 scales. For now I will be limited to enthusiast level, but plan on building a WaS set from my collection of nearly 1900 ships in the 1/6000 scale. I guess I won't need to have 4" squares for my maps as these ships are around a 1/3rd as big in size, and 1/9th as big in volume. Cool

Cheers, or maybe I should say Cheereo!

Im not sure where Anrack is mate, but Ill look into having your Club Membership approved. I dont seem to be able to find the "User Groups" section as it used to be atop the forum. So perhaps Ill contact George and see how to do that again.

In the meantime, I believe you can activate your membership from within your profile by typing into the appropriate field Club Royal Navy, I believe the instruction are on page 1 of this thread of how to do it Dale.

It was great to recieve your message and of course any Dedicated Royal navy fan belongs here with us, Ill add you to the list mate....and welcome.

Hip Hip Hurray! Club Royal Navy banner now displayed! Glad to be on board. Thank you very much for jumping in here to help me join, mate!  Very Happy

With regards to the User Groups section, I accessed the Group joining website form the info on your page 1 of this thread, which took me to the members group area I believe, namely,

Quote:
To apply for membership you can enter your request here and I will see to your application or you can click this link http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/groupcp.php
to take you to the Usergroups section

After I chose CRN as my "Join a Group" choice, then I hit "View Information", which took me to a spreadsheet list of names in the Group and their public information, and there was a button near the top IIRC where I could press to subscribe and did so. Not sure if that helps what you want to do, but yes that would be cool to show up in that list and the club members list on page 1 of this thread. However, I will not let that stop me from confirming my membership by displaying the CRN avatar and badge.  Wink

Cheers, mate.

Hey Woodside and Danaussie!

Anrack went MIA for awhile, then pilgrimjump (Pilgrimtone's son) took over.  He has been MIA too.

Right now Club RN is rather rudderless, but at least it has some members.  Unfortunately many of the clubs are in the same boat.  The theatre clubs are in better shape - the nationals are a wreck!  Most of the national clubs are down to 1 or 2 active members.
Club USN is in good shape and so is the newer club Red.  Everyone else is running on fumes.
Brigman

Hey, Club IJN has more than a few players.  Although Joe (club prez) has been MIA for a while now - I've been acting as prez since I'm currently vice president of the club.  Sad

Good to see Dan pop back up here!

Proposal to add 1 Squadron of SBD Dauntless to LL list

Good day Gentleman:

As a member of Club Royal Navy and appearing on the navy list, I would like to propose the addition of one squadron of Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bombers to our Lend Lease list which were operated by No. 25 Squadron of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. No. 25 Squadron was formed in July 1943 and trained near Auckland, New Zealand in the second half of 1943. They initially trained on the USMC SBD-3 and then SBD-4 during 1943, and deployed to a Pacific theater airfield in Jan 1944. In Feb 1944 their squadron was upgraded to SBD-5 aircraft. Before converting to a Corsair F4U-1D fighter-bomber squadron in May 1944, they had flown 32 missions total from Piva airfield on Bougainville Island in the Solomons, destroying 18 confirmed aircraft on the ground at airfields near Rabaul, with many more reported unconfirmed. They also performed a large number of ground attack missions from Piva. For further reading see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._25_Squadron_RNZAF

The aircraft card to be added would have to be the normal dive bombing SBD Dauntless, as they were not trained in ASW, and in combat they flew the SBD-5, so the ASW SBD-3 Dauntless card is ruled out. As there is no provision on the SBD card to restrict the squadron to a land base, I propose that for the purposes of the game that one may assume that they could have trained in either carrier or ground based roles, overlooking the fact that it was an air force squadron, and considering that it might nevertheless have been attached to a naval command. If I can get at least one vote of support besides my own from a CRN member, and a majority yes vote in total, then I will request a club house moderator (since we currently lack an operational president) to add one line for the Dauntless to our Lend Lease aircraft list on page one of the CRN thread so that it reads as follows:

Quote:

Lend Lease Aircraft

B-24 Liberator
B-25 Mitchell
SBD Dauntless (1944-1945, 1 squadron only)
PBY Catalina
PBY Black Cat
TBF-1 Avenger (1942-1945)
TBF Avenger (1944-1945)
P-40 Warhawk
F4U-1A Corsair
F4U-1D Corsair

Players may use 1 Lend Lease Aircraft per 50 Points in your fleet builds.

I am allowing for the continued operation until 1945 of the SBD Dauntless in the above list at the discretion of the commander who chooses to use them in his games. This is unlikely to have a major impact on CRN games, but I feel it is historical, and furthermore adds to the variety of Commonwealth builds. If you would like to see the SBD, but would like to see a different entry in the Lend Lease list, then step forward and make your recommendation.

Discussion and voting is welcome. I am hoping that with this slight tweaking of the Lend Lease Aircraft list, we might get some more people playing for CRN in online games. After all, the Single Nation Club Season is approaching.

Yours sincerely,

Admiral Woodside

I suppose the proposal could be made more interesting if the year limits were changed to reflect the use of the SBD-4 in 1943 by New Zealand. It would then read:

SBD Dauntless (1943-1945, 1 squadron only)

And even though the UK were testing the Dauntless themselves, they never deployed them, so I would not like to go any further than 1943. Still, 1943 looks pretty good for this in game terms in that a 1943 game removes the more significant Lend Lease (LL) possibility of the F4U-1D Corsair and full metal jacket TBF Avenger, with only the TBF-1 Avenger meeting the year requirement. Of course, any big air build, due to the 1 LL aircraft limit per 50 pts rule, will still have to rely heavily on the Barracuda and cool new Fairey Firefly F.Mk I strike planes in 1943 and in 1944. The Lend Lease just fill things out with a bit more in competitiveness. Comments? Do you prefer 1943 or 1944 as the year limit?

In case you were wondering, I PMed a high ranking moderator to monitor our ideas when I first posted this proposal so as to keep us in check in case we were seen to go too far. Wink

Wow - as I did not play many games - and no club match in a million years, I did not realize that clubs are so inactive Wink

The proposed Lend Lease list looks good to me.

Well good day fellow Club Royal Navy member, sir! I was kind of wondering if I would get a response from anyone. I sent out a half dozen PM's regarding the Lend Lease list amendment to see if I could get some activity going again here. Thank you very much for your vote in support of the motion. Smile It's just one Squadron, but it's the principle of the thing. There was a New Zealand Squadron of SBD Dauntless and by golly we should have it. CRN is still a 2nd tier air power, but what the heck, we try harder.

Yes, the activity for the moment has moved to the Theater Clubs, which are having a tournament at the moment until the 28th of February IIRC. I do not off hand recognize the flag of your theater club, but if that is a theater club you could actually have a go and play a couple of games. I think it requires playing 10 games to qualify to win the tournament, but any number of games played by any one individual would likely be appreciated.

The next tournament should be for the Single Nation Clubs, with the tournaments cycling with one each per year, or so it appears. However, activity in the Single Nation Clubs appears to be at a new low according to several comments I have heard lately, so I don't know what will transpire.

As far as Club Royal Navy (CRN), well this is just one of several clubs that has lost their presidents to people dropping out and no longer even reading their PM's. So we are sans president at the moment.

Best Regards,

Admiral Woodside

Hi!!!

I want to sign up before I get press-ganged.

What do I need to do to sign up?

Is there an initiation ceremony?

What do I need to do to re-establish the former glory of the British Empire?
