Battle of the River Plate

This one is nice for a simple, easy to play scenario that is relatively balanced, and can be a lot of fun.  I know that ND has created this scenario before, but this one is probably a bit simpler and quicker to play, albeit less historically accurate.

The two sides are the British and the Germans.

Fleets are as follows:

Germans:
Admiral Graf Spee
U-510 (not part of the real battle, but a U-boat plausibly could have been, and it balances the sides)

British:
HMS Ajax
HMS Exeter
HMNZS Achilles (use Forumini card)

Islands are optional, but it greatly improves the strategy if they are used.

Victory conditions:
The Germans win if they destroy the entire British fleet.
The British win if they destroy the Admiral Graf Spee.
If both of these things happen the same turn, it is a draw.

Have fun!
Task Force 57

hrrrrrm, how about a Nordmark in Mvd. harbour/neutral waters (thus not attackable) to simulate a german bolt-hole for patching up hull points (to be used once during the battle). Give the german player the choice of one to two turns to hide in harbour then he has to come out...with the Nordmark

To make it more accurate you could have a county class cruiser waiting to arrive on the 2nd turn after the G.S comes out of harbour (only to be deployed if the german player takes the bolt-hole option).

"It cant be..."
"I tell you It is..."
"yeoman, make to Cumberland...How did you get here so quickly?"
"Cumberland signaling sir.... A.N.T.I.C..."
"Anticipation!!"

Good ideas, but I like the simplicity of the current setup.  The more rules I add, the more complex the game play becomes.  I'm going more for smooth and easy play than for historical accuracy.   Smile
Schlachtschiff Bismarck

I have tried the basic historical scenario several times and only once did graf spee lose.  The key is to maintain er4 as long as possible, typically you will vital at least 1 cruiser and dammage another before closing to range 3. then you will typically take 1 pt of dammage and hit oneor boyh of the RN cruisers this is where the tacticts vary, either maintain range 3 for defensive purposes or close in and use secondaries and torpedos. the only game I lost I chose the latter option but in the process destroyed the remaining two.

Now add in the dynamic of a u510...no ASW...bye bye RN cruisers
