Baltic AmbushHere's a quick Flank Speed game I've been messing with
----------
Unknown to the Kreigsmarine, the Soviet navy has reactivated the Oktyabrskaya Revolutsia in Leningrad and set out to ambush a German coastal bombardment squadron in the Baltic under stormy conditions. However, a second German task force is not far off, and may be able to turn the tables...
AXIS (deploy in the center two sectors of the map)
1x Schleswig-Holstein
1x T-27
ALLIES (deploy in column K)
1x Oktyabrskaya Revolutsia
1x USS Richmond (Murmansk, magically teleported to the Baltic)
2x Kirov
4x Gromkiy
place 2 rain squalls in the 2 center sectors of the map, per the Weather rules of the Update and Clarifications document
on turn 2 the Axis receive the following reinforcements, which enter in column A during the movement phase by paying one movement point:
1x Admiral Scheer
1x Karlsruhe
1x Z20 Karl Galster
1x Z18 Hans Ludemann
Any Axis unit can exit the map from column A by paying one movement point. Any Allied unit can exit from column K by paying one movement point. Once exited they are no longer in play, don't count for initiative bonuses, and cannot return.
The game ends when one side or the other has no units in play. The Axis win if they sink the Oktyabrskaya Revolutsia. Otherwise the Allies win if they sink the Schleswig-Holstein. Otherwise its a draw.

I played it a couple of times, it's quick and I think interesting. I'm not sure it's balanced. Luck will play a big part - weather movement, concealment rolls, initiative, and Slow rolls. Most of all it's an excuse to get these two old and unusual battlewagons onto the board
First time O-R managed to close quickly to range 3, won initiative, one-shotted S-H which failed its concealment roll. Not too interesting. Second time S-H used smoke and weather to more effect, and Soviets couldn't land a killing blow. Also they missed a slow roll or two and lost initiative a few times. Finally they managed to sink S-H, but the rest of the Germans had closed by that time. O-R already had one hit, and Scheer managed another and Karlsruhe landed a torpedo at range-0 and Germans won the day...
