Looking good....I recall you showing this to me when I visited.
That is a heck of alot of AAM minis, but looks great.
Have you played out some games yet....my thought at the time was cool, but the map will have to be huge to accomodate the larger peices.

Frankly I don't see the point...you'd be much better of with either the original pieces or a game like Jeff Stein's The War Game. As it is now the board just looks super cluttered and unwieldy. Unless you actually use the A&A mini rules for combats which is just silly as a full turn (all nations) could take a week or more.

I think they are using A&A rules or a combination form the various A&A sets. The point is it just looks more visually apealing to have actual AAM/WAS units from each nation for the game pieces on a super huge map (Although it all had to cost a pretty penny).
Kind of like when we were kids having the the little green army men or the nice painted ones from britain.
I doubt we will see anything like it from WoTC, but is is very unique and looks cool IMO.
GAR,
What rules are you using?

I have a map that uses the regular pieces out of the Board games. That map is 33" x62" or about 15 sq ft. This was the play testing map
The map I have posted is 45.5" x96" or about 32 sq. ft
How can you not see the point?
The clutter is a Issue on Great Britain but not really anywhere else. And after 1 full round of movements and stacking of Armies and navies, the potential clutter all but disappears.
You had mentioned the "War Game". I personally find that game a Drag. It has to many rules and Combat is resolved in a more complicated manner. I like the KISS method myself.

We are using the AA50 ruleset with Rule inserts from Pacific,European and revised all together
This includes all the rules for the units and any applicable changes made.
we also use a House rule Tech tree of ten techs. Most are revised techs with a few added for flavor
We also use the revised National Advantages and have edited a few so they can work on this map or just completly removed them all together and added a new ones

Very cool AA50 is by far the best edition of A&A to date and Pacific is one of my favorites as well.
It really does look great. I recall you showing it to me when I visited and thinking you had a lot tied up in it and wondering if it would really happen. Gald to see it is working out.
So, how many IPCs does it cost for a resupply of Cheese its?

Sorry I just don't...while your map itself does look great I think the A&A minis on the map make the game itself (no matter the rules set) look rubbish, they just don't fit. Just an opinion, perhaps I perfer things to be more uniform then yourself (i.e you have a ton of different infantry models for the various nations unless they actually have different rules, doubtful since you like KISS, why not keep them all the same)
Too each his own.

I agree with you 100% as far as My Inf. are concerned.
The problem is, It is hard to get a Large # of a specific Unit type for 1 Nation.
As an example I have 8 SNLF paratroopers and 10 SNLF fanatics for JPN, or 15 Russian Partisans, but have no more then 3 Of any one type of German Inf.. Italy has similar #'s to japan between Blackshirts or the Fucillo Modela 1891.
I won't even get into UK's troop #'s and types
America can field a army of S. Eagles though.
I would be very Much happy if all the Inf. for each nation were uniform with each other. would make Multi national forces easier to Identify. \
The same goes with the Tanks, and I feel I have done a pretty good job here. UK and JPN are the only completly non uniform players with their tanks.
I have tried the market place and have had some success. But the "pool" has been drained I think.

cost is 1 game on the big Board
Here's another pic, It was taken right after Germany's combat move on rd 3. The Russian player wanted to use the Bt-7 tank instead of the T-34 for some reason.

Where, the living Hell, do you get a map like that!!??!?!??
If I had the space that map would solve some problems! Maybe if I used the task force markers on the regular map. How do you differentciate WAS planes from AAM planes when resolving battles?

A link for my Map is available on Axisandallies.org
Here is a Link to the thread
http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=11672.0
that map I have is 45.5"x96" Big
We play on a 4x8 sheet of plywood
We just use the pieces as Eyecandy. They all utilize AA50 unit costs and stats.
Like I said, I can't help you out with the rules that you are trying to put together, But I can show you what it would look like on a board

Those Cheese-its definately make the board come ALIVE!
I think it looks great. I have been working on doing the same thing with A&A D-day. The AAM pieces are alot easier to negotiate than the stick people that come with the game.
WELL DONE!

Completely awesome ! AA50 is great but this looks even more brilliant.
Would you mind sharing the rules of the game ? (i.e. the techs, the additions you took from the other game versions, other changes from AA50, like how you handle neutral territory, also I saw a railroad in Russia (I think), how does that work ?)
Cheers,

Combining AAM, WAS and the boardgame would present some difficulties. I was thinking about it today as I spent the day at my FLGS playing a speacial version of the boardgame. One of our members (I run the Axis & Allies group of Toronto) made a more complex version of the game. The map was 4'x 8'. He remade the map using MS paint, paid $60 to have it printed on paper and another $170 to have it printed on vinyl. It was a slow game due to rule explaining, but it was very enjoyable. One of the things he did was create new units. You now had infantry, heavy infantry, mechanized infantry, light tanks, heavy tanks, fighters, fighter/bomber, bomber, frigate, destroyer, aircraft carrier, submarine, battleship, recon plane, sea transport, air transport (for airborne). I may have forgotten a few units. But one of the issues I've always had with the game is that a tank is tank regardless of what country it is from. It's too generic. I find it strange that Japan can field a tank that is equal to an American or Soviet tank. We once played a game of the 50th anniversary edition where Italy took Stalingrad. I'm saying all this to demonstrate the point that to combine the minis with boargame, one would have to come up with a way of generating IPCs (money in the game) in a way that allows countries to purchase the right historical equipment. So that in my above example, the Italians would have a tougher time attacking the Soviets. An M13/40 would not have an easy time fighting a T-34. I'm not quite sure how to solve the problem. I'm toying with some ideas like
1. one IPC = 5 points worth of AAM or WAS
2. have seperate attack and defend boards for each country to better represent their strengths and weaknesses.
that's my 2 cents.

But if you play too historically, The allies win, every time.
I would like to expand the units available myself. But at the same time, keep it simple. The easiest way that I can think of to add the numerous units wanted, You have to scrap the D-6 system all together and change to a d-10 or d-12. This would give you a better way to diversify units and there costs with there ability's, and be able to maintain a tolerable Historical flavor.

The special version of the game we played used a D10. It's a lot of work to redesign the game. It would be a big commitment.
