Auxillary Swarm Fleet? With the new set III units comming out, this has my brain thinking again. Certainly it is possible, but has anyone actually tried an auxillary swarm fleet?
If so, do tell. I've always wondered...

I have never actually swarmed with auxillaries (don't have nearly enough). However i did get a lot of use out of the gunnery on a Nordmark. My opponent had a singly damaged baltimore and tagged two good shots on him with my Nordmark (my last surface ship) for the win!
I think a cassabianca swarm might actually be a decent idea with some kind of fighter cover. No french planes though i'm afraid. with run silent and it's 4 pt vital cargo, they are potentially 5 point subs!

I tried a P.T. Boat swarm in a for fun 100 point game once, and it got slaughtered by enemy Zeroes. If you're going to swarm it is imperative to have air superiority. The problem is, if you spend too many points on fighters, then you don't have enough points left for an adeuquate number of boats; and you'll still need at least one survivable surface ship to claim objectives with.
I think the best way to build a Aux swarm would be to center it around a carrier. Maybe something like this:
USS Enterprise (25)
F4F Wildcats x 3 (21)
P.T. Boats x 9 (54)
(100)
I picked USS Enterprise for its initiative bonus, which is important for both defensive aircraft placement and lining up torpedo shots; but I'm not sure if nine P.T. Boats is enough to swarm with.

Can't torpedo boats not claim objectives? Or am I thinking of something else.

No, though they can contest them.
