Assigning Air Missions to a Land Air Base.Hi guys, new to the game, just picked up several paks and starter so forgive me with any dumb, noob questions.
I saw this in the Clarifications update:
"Aircraft can be placed in any sector on the battle map or on the land airbase. Once an air
mission is assigned to the land airbase, however, all of that player's remaining air missions
are automatically sent to the land airbase."
Why/when would you assign an Air Mission to a Land Base? Do all aircraft have to either attack or go to the land air base?

First of all, Sarge77.
Second, lets see if I can answer your questions.
You would assign a mission to the land airbase if you didn't want your opponent to be able to shoot your plane down. For example, lets say that all you have left to assign is a PBY Catalina and your opponent has three Zekes left to assign. Chances are your Catalina will be shot down, so you put it on the land airbase to get it out of harm's way. Assigning a mission to the airbase is like not giving it an assignment at all. Also, a plane does not pick up a re-arming counter if assigned to the land airbase, so you can use it again next turn, when your opponent may not have as many fighters available.
The only rule forcing you to assign aircraft to the land airbase is that after you assign one aircraft to the land airbase, you must assign all your remaining unassigned aircraft to the land airbase as well. So, lets say that I have the following aircraft, four Wildcats and a Catalina. If I assign a Wildcat to protect my carrier, and then assign a Catalina to the land airbase, all the rest of my Wildcats must go to the land airbase. In other words, my air placement is finished. This rule was added in because there were problems with people using the land airbase to "pass" on their air placement while they waited for their opponent to run out of planes.
I hope that answered your questions.

Welcome!
Sometimes one might find out that sending out planes are equivalent to sending sheeps to tigers' mouths. To prevent gamey play, the rules update allow you to declare that you are not going to send more planes out by "sending" your planes to the airbase.
