Anybody play Napoleonic's?

As you can guess by my signature I'm a big Napoleonic history buff. I have two rulesets Avalon Hill's Napoleon's Battles and Sam Mustafa's Grande Armee. Is anybody else into Napoleonic's?

Starting up here, probabally with Too Fat Lardie's Sharpe's Practice. We've got a horrible 'Nappy Grognard' problem here that has put nearly everyone off the period, but with the new Perry, Hat and Victrix 28mm plastics being so nice it's proved impossible to resist. I Have some Brit Riflemen in the painting que as we speak.

I have a buddy with an Alternative Armies Elven French force, so our goal is going to be to counter-irritate them right back out of the shop when they hear we're playing and show up to inform us how historically substandard our armies are. Then we hope to recruit some of the gretchen who've shown an interest.
Sharpe

I live near the Minifigs factory in Cincinnati.  It was a division of Ral Partha, another company chewed up and spit out by WOTC.  Anyway, Mrs. Sharpe used to bake a few dozen cookies and I would head down to the warehouse.  In exchange for the cookies and $20, they let me go through the inventory and would also cast lists of specific pieces from the waste metal.  I would pretty much leave with as much as I could carry.

In this way, I acquired several hundred figures and organized them into companies, battalions, divisions and corps.  It wasn't a purely historical army, but it had an historical organization.  Each battalion had distinct flanking companies; there were light infantry regiments with flanking companies; rifle battalions, guards, engineers, provost, different types of cavalry and each regiment, division & corps had a command stand w/music.  There were also three large bands (1 mounted) and artillery.  I got flag bearers and bought those paper wrap-around flags for each regiment.

Pretty good deal for oatmeal cookies.

I remember Ral Partha very well. They made much better fantasy miniatures than Wizard's. I didn't know Minifigs was a division of RP. RP is now under the helm of Iron Wind Metals.

I got my 15's from Lothar Lutjens a few years ago. I've got a good bit of Minifigs Old Guard Infantry and Cavalry along with some Russian Infantry and Cuirassiers. I've also got some Heritage USA Young Guard packs. What I lack is Line infantry and Artillery.  Sad I am seriously considering going with 6mm though as I can get an entire corps from Stone Mountain Miniatures for about $50 bucks. Salut et Vive l'Empereur y'all!

I use 25mm.  I've seen beautiful 15mm work, but I was hard-pressed to do a passable job on 25mm.

How do you paint 6mm?

Only played Napoleonic once mostly ACW 15mm.  The rule set we predominately used was Fields of Honor which was very diverse and covered 19th Century warfare from Napleon to Spansih American War.

I sold of most of my paint ACW 15mm.  I had entire Union 1st Corps and 3 Conferedate Divisions along with some varios others from each side.

I turned to AAM/WaS as an alternative due to lack of time for painting miniatures and lack of gaming group.

Verry carefully.  Mr. Green Actually I've painted some of the GHQ individual WWII Infantry and its not that hard. I use an #0 brush for general coverage, a #0/3 for medium detail, and an #0/10 for fine detail. I don't paint things like Regimental piping colors as thats too dang small to see (Unless your a button counter using a microscope which I'm not!). I'll just expand my pallette colors a little. Using an optivisor or a set of Mageyes will probably help as well.

6mm is all about the landscaping on the bases. There's not that much detail to the figs themselves so they paint pretty fast and easy, but a well-landscaped base takes them to another level.

There's some lovely stuff in all scales here, and many of these fellows own or work for those UK companies we all love. Much frendlier than TMP as well. For 6mm pay speical attention to Angel Barrack's stuff, it's awesome. My favorite gaming website.

Played Napoleons Battles and have large 15mm size French, Austrian and Prussian with a corps of Bavarian and some Italian as well.  The problem was/is finding opponents since I work an odd schedule.
lotharlutjens

I have played a fair amount of Napoleonics in my lifetime, my favorite rules was a little rulebook called Fire and Steel, they also had a cardboard set of rules called System 7.
Duck Crusader

Ohh, Fire and Steel, haven't seen those for awhile. Yer dating yerself...

you could still check on boardgamegeek. You'd be amazed at what out of print games you can find there. Cool
