Air Mission, Defense, Attack

OK- So the Air Mission phase begins.  We palce planes in alternating fashion until all planes are deployed (or not).

Then begins the air defense phase.
1) Who does thier air defense first.  Ships or fighters?  Does it matter?

Now the air attack phase.
2) Dive and Torp bombers attack, Now the fighters can attack enemy fighters in the same sector using thier air defense values right?  Can a fighter use it's air attack against one of the bombers to try and score a kill if they failed to abort it during the air defense phase?  If so, does the fighter still lose it's 4's since thier is an enemy fighter escorting?

Help - Ugh!

1) in this phase, init loser goes first, he can make AA attacks in any order he wants, it doesn't matter if it is from a ship or aircraft.  The only time order matters in this phase is with an SA like B-25's defensive armament.

2)nope, anti-air values, even on fighters, are only used in the air defense phase (the nomenclature is a bit confusing since it is one aircraft attacking another, but AA values are only for the Air Defense phase).  Fighters may use their other attack values in this phase, however, provided they declared strafing to use the gunnery value and they haven't used their anti-air attack in the air defense phase.

So... Can a fighter in the Air Defense Phase attack an enemy fighter using its AA dice?

And if a fighter attacks during the air defense phase it loses its chance to attack during the air attack phase, unless it is strafing, then it already forfeited its ability during defense phase.

We got into a tangled argument over this last week.

yes, a fighter can attack any air unit in the air defense phase, as can a ship.

As for the rest of it, you've got it right as far as my understanding goes.
