Air Builds

So I love airpower and amtrying to obtain it.  If you have nay up fr trade check out my tradelist.  So back to armies based around air power.  I think they could be quite powerful.  Here is one for the axis(I have no point values, just ideas).

It could be an army of Stukas to take out armor and Bf109e's or Messerschmitt Aces.  Of course I don't believe it should be all air power and there should be some units on the ground but everything would be around air.

Now for the allies, this is a little more difficult as they don't have any bombers but an army of Corsairs or Mustangs would do well because they have rockets and bombs.  as with this you'd have to have some sort of ground units for objectives but it would be based around air.

I do have a build for the axis and it is 200 points (somehow the Luftwaffe got hold of a Zero)

Bf109e x2
Me 110 x1
Messerschmitt Ace x1
Zero x1
Pak 38 x2
Nebelwerfer 42 x2
88 x1
20mm Flak 36 x1
Pak 40 x1
7.5cm Lel G18 x2
Panzer II Ausf. f x1

I believe that's it but as you can tell it is a defensive build based around artillery.  They way I see it working:  With all the air superiority the guns don't have to worry about being attacked from the air.  The 88 and Pak 40 have good range and will easily slow down enemy armor, while the Pak 38's are good because of "seasoned Crew".  The Nebelwerfer's and G18's will pound enemy infantry while the Flak 36 will help keep skies clear of enemy planes.  The tank will act as a decoy, distraction, or support unit.  Now for the planes.  Whatever the antitank guns disrupt to defense 4 the planes can go in to try to do something.  The planes will also provide massive cover for the artillery slowing down all infantry units;killing most.  The artillery almost have the ability to defend themselves but would get overrun easily.  I think it would work well if you're a defender trying to keep hold of a town.  There is a risk here if you lose your planes but units will most likely have to roll 5+'s.  So what do you think?

I haven't developed an allied air build yet as I don't have enough air power.  I am trying to grow my allied air so check out my tradelist for what I have and what planes I want.  Please propose allied air trades first if possible.

So what do you think of this kind of army?  I think it could be risky; such as you will either do very bad or very good.  I do have an axis air/tank build which is pretty good and might post that later.  So any thoughts?

Like you said, it's a defensive build but from what I've seen there isn't much need for a defensive build. If you had an objective out in the middle of no where and could cover it with your artillery then it might work but usually all it would take would be a mad dash by your opponent on turn 7 and you'd be done if you weren't able to contest the objective. Maybe if you added in a couple fast light vehicles that you just kept back out of the way until the last couple turns.

But as a defensive build it might work nicely. Most non-scenario set-ups I've seen are what are called meeting engagements where both sides are moving to gain ground for a main force that is following. They model recon or recon in force situations. They can also model situations like a counter attack where you have a large attack force moving in to a hole in the lines with a reserve force moving up to fill the hole. But a lot of WWII was either on the offensive against a static defender or a dug in defense against an attacker. This usually puts a larger (10 - 25%) force against the defender trying to hold ground. I've played around with this in AAM and usually at a minimum it requires the attacker have about 10% more points than the defender but it does depend on the map you play on. I find these set-ups interesting because they often require some slight modification to your thinking about builds. Static defenders don't need as much mobility outside of a mobile reserve while the attacker needs more mobility, especially to get around having infantry hoof it all the way across the map.

Yea those were part of my thoughts when developing this type of army.
