Advice on scenario design with 3" maps

(I posted this in a reply to General Hoth about my Nighttime Witches, Daytime Nights scenario, but thought more people might see it in a seperate thread. Sorry for the repetition.)

Based on recent feedback, I'm moving to the 3" maps (I'll miss the size of the battlefield I can make with the 2"ers.)

I'm looking for any advice from other designers about how to deal with the smaller battlefields inherent in using the 3" maps.

I'm especially interested in how others deal with translating historic battles to these maps.

Short of using four to six of these maps together (which I don't have the table space to do) it seems to me that, in essence, a couple of these maps together only represent a portion of a battle that is about "platoon-sized" in scale.

How do other designers find a sufficiently small piece of an historic battle to focus on, or do you simply put more of the forces of the historic battle in a much more condensed geographic space?

The drawback, to my point of view, is the tank warfare and clash. Less manoeuvring.

In matter of infantry, it is perfect, but some map need some tweak for coverage and concealment. I did many 3D lots of trees and rocks to help out this way
