AAM Cup Q&A

Ask anything related to the AAM Olympic Cup.

[If you need clarifications about aam rules then use the relevant subforum; not this thread.]

First time at this online.  Assume we need to do our own maps?  A quick tutorial on that would be helpful as well as rolling dice.  Embarassed

Thanks,
NeuralDream

For rolling dice:
type what you see in the box

Code:
[dice=2d6]

The result is:
Rolls: (2d6)

For the maps, you need any image editing software and an account in photobucket or imageshack. Just type the name of the unit inside each hex. See the WAS admirals matches to see how they did it.

Rolls: (4d6)

awesome, sorry I had to try it. Smile

Thanks,
Piemaster

I will try to sign up but just a quick thing.

1. Do we use units we actually have?

2. Any house rules?

3. I can only play in the afternoon, is that ok?

We play only official units. No house rules. You don't have to have the units. Use the online database to see their stats.
It's ok to play whenever you want. AFter all you still don't know what timezone your opponent will be.

Re: AAM Cup Q&A

Over in the other thread, you said:

Use the AAM units database http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/aam_db.asp for units for which you don't have the cards.

Got any source for the text of the special abilities for cards we don't have?

I believe they are listed on the database.

If they are, I can't seem to find them.  They list which SAs each unit has, but they don't give the text.

Heres a place I always use:

http://www.hordelings.com/frontend/games/index.php

jsut go to games:axis and allies minis:sets: [choose a set][click it]
mjos220

I have an excel spreadsheet with all the units and abilities that I got from here, I think (thanks). I will post if you would like
NeuralDream

The excel sheet you refer to can be downloaded at the Boardgamegeek website for both AAM and WAS.
Gross Admiral Raeder

I keep getting Fatal Failure message there. Some else have a link?

do we pm you our armies now?
Blackeagle

Think you could put some number/letter coordinates on the map like you did for the naval minis?  Seems like that would make things easier.
NeuralDream

For those that didn't notice, you deploy only on the far left or far right column of the map, not the typical 5-hexes distance from the side, but the actual side. That's because the map is too small.

AAM Database

Be careful useing the "Official Database"  there are still some misprints and just wrong information.  Try clicking the Panzergrenadier to get the stat card for an example.

Make sure that when you always indicate the facing of your vehicles. Either wth fancy graphics or with a simply arrow or even just text.

Here's one...

I'm at work and don't have the rule book in front of me.  Can a paratrooper deploy next to an objective marker?  I know it can't be deployed in the objective itself.

I'm thinking of dropping one of my German paras in the town and another in the woods w/ road next to the objective.  I know the town one's okay, but the woods one...?

When our group plays, I think such a move is fine, but I can't remember!  Embarassed

Thanks!

I believe the only restriction is it cannot be next to an enemy unit.  So technically you could place it in the objective hex if an enemy unit is not adjacent.  Someone correct me if I am wrong.  Can be done at the end of any movement phase, so you can wait a few turns as well.

Would not be divulging my stategy in the Q&A sticky though.  Laughing

LoL  Well, I planned to deploy this turn anyway, so it's not a big deal.   Very Happy
Polish_Cavalryman

ahhh.  I didn't know you were waiting or I'd have answered this.

"At the end of any of your movement phases, you may deploy this unit on the map in any hex that isn't adjacent to an enemy unit. It can't move that phase."

To me... you can deploy next to or onto the objective if you like.
Grenzewolf

Is there a limit off wo 5/5 soldiers that can be deployed?  I was thinking there was but can't find it.

No such limit. Only limit on number of heroes, which is different for each round.
Grenzewolf

Ok, thanks.  (hehe I really need to start proofing my posts before I submit.  that should have read "limit of two" Rolling Eyes )
Grenzewolf

I am rather confused as to the numbering of the hex's.  In this orientation shouldnt it just simply be straight across?

Map does look interesting though! Very Happy
Grenzewolf

Ahhhh on closer inspection I see how we will send movement.  Slightly different from the last threw me for a loop. Embarassed

Polish_Cavalryman

I had considered moving an infantryman into a hex that contained an enemy infantry.  This would have involved crossing a river into a hex with cover.

I'm curious what the order on this would be?

If the enemy choose to shoot at me in the range 1 hex would I have to roll for crossing the stream 1st?  I believe that only makes sense.  And if I failed I assume he would not have been able to shoot.

If he chooses to fire at me in the same hex I likewise assume I'd have to roll to cross the stream 1st.  And If I failed that he would not get a shot.

Any comments?
